So you want the world (read the west and EU) to absorb 39 million Afghani's now?

No! I never said that.

I didn’t want to see this abomination from the USA and the only thing I expected from the world - EU, NATO, Australia, Canada, NZ and few others is a small multinational peace keeping force of anywhere between 30,000 to 50,000 troops for as long as it takes for the Afghan Government and people to stand on their own feet.

The Americans did this all wrong.

they had a security force of 300k strong,

vs a Taliban, estimated 80k strong

They had equipment and funding and they had a government, they were managing their own affairs.

Then they gave it all up to the Taliban without putting up a fight.

Yes but you are forgetting that the Afghan Security Forces were reliant on intelligence from the CIA, and other coalition partners and that entailed massive infrastructure and coverage to them.

Our forces were also behind them offering huge amounts of technical support.

Till we pulled the rug from under their feet.

And yet Max, something tells me this isn’t over yet as many of those 300k are joining the Northern Alliance.

no sorry,

They had a government, a security force and the allies for the last 20 years,

The Taliban didnt have any intelligence, are less in numbers, equipment and they didnt have the resources that the government did.

They need to take control of their country themselves.

The Taliban are a rebel group.

No, you can’t expect miracles overnight. This was always going to be a long project and over the last 20 years a lot of progress was made. Kabul was actually ending up to be a vibrant and cosmopolitan city.

The Afghans have fought for their country for the last 50 years. The bravery displayed by Northern Alliance against the Soviets, with US backing is unheard of anywhere else.

The coalition owed it to the Afghans to give them as much time as they needed.

Btw Kikapu, if every country takes a few, it wouldn’t be a bad thing would it? You know, help our fellow humans!

Canada and Australia a taking a small number - 20k and 13k.

I’m sure so many other countries are doing the same. Might be so few, but it means a lot to those few I’m sure.

Cyprus could take some. How about Cyprus take 500?

I think that would be a great thing to do. Just 500.

I’m sure you guys can do that right?

Well take them in Paphos where they can have a little Kabul there. I’ll be hanging out there a lot.

I disagree, they were there for 20 years,

It cost billions and has cost many lives.

The Afganis need to form a government, regroup and eradicate the Taliban.

or get on with it under Taliban rule.

It cost us a pittance in terms of money. And a small force of 50K will cost a fraction even if they stayed another 20 years.

The most costly thing was the lives and what we have done now is a deplorable act to the families of the fallen.

We spend obscene amounts on our AWDs, Frigates and Submarines.

A few troops in Afghanistan is literally chicken feed.
