There is something most people are not even aware of! Even if you are up-to-date and make all your payments100% up to date you can still have a serious problem. IF the mortgage exceeds the value of the property ...... the Banks will demand you pay them the difference or else!
If you cannot/will not pay they will seize the property, sell it, take all they are owed and all their costs and you will get what's left ..... if anything and you can still be in debt to the Bank. What you won't get is another mortgage ..... you are on a 'black-list'' !
