Indeed, as "they" would have you believe, Religion and God are the same; moreso "their" God is the one and only. This may discount all these Religions, because (if there is a God) there is one God. Religions, at least in principal are not inherently bad, but power, and absolute power corrupts. Counter-intuitively, people seeking corruption must necessarily move to positions of power to succeed. It is not a far stretch from there to see corruption institutionalised.

How can I have a beef with something that does not exist. Mankind first invented god to explain what he did not understand. Then mankind realised the power of such control and invented religion and started selling plots in heaven.

There are a lot of people who have a "personal" God. GR's God is such a "personal" God.
A "personal" God depends on how the person understands it to be.

For me it's impossible to understand the properties of God so I remain without any personal or other type of God.
Problem is we can't prove that something doesn't exist. Re: the Boila University debate you posted.

The idea of personal god does not make sense at all. It is no good using the word god for that, you can create another name for it. Quite what purpose it serves I would like to know though. If a person understands what is happening to him, what is causing it and how to mitigate it there is no need for god. If a person does not, we have professional people that will help normally at a price but sometimes free like in UK. If it is some sort of ilness which has no cure, the Doctors wil explain it. It is like being in a card game and being given a non-winning set of cards. Enjoy it while you are here and do not worry about what hapens once you are gone. There is no heaven or hell. Infact if there is heaven or hell it is on this here earth and we made it for ourselves.

It serves to satisfy the human logic that there is an ultimate cause for everything in the Universe.
This is what not only humans but also other beings having intelligence call God. What other name do you think is more appropriate??
Religions provide answers to all these questions that help people find a meaning in their lives. No wonder they are so widespread. Of course there's no way to do that without bypassing human logic at some point but that's OK for millions of people as it satisfies their emotions/fear of death etc.

Let me ask you a question: Do you think there's an ultimate cause of everything in the Universe, or you think there isn't.

I do not even think about it. I am on this here earth and my function is to create life that carry ny genes so my genes survives to the end of the world. Beyond that I do not worry just the same as I do not worry about being 70. I will enjoy my life what ever the situation I find myself in and when life is no longer enjoyable I have given instructions as to what I want done if I am unable to do it myself. My kids probably will not do what I asked, so I will not allow it to go that far. One big party and I will be gone.

I understand the circle of life. We use the goodness from this earth to be who we are and we shall return it back at the end so it goes back into the soil for the next generation.

This idea of after death is very dangerous as it is used to condition humanity to accept all tha crap being dumped on us and not challenge it because so long as we love god we wil be ok on the other side. Judging by how we come to be as it is pure chance and there are a million and one things that could have stopped us becoming, what is there to worry about.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuul shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit is the words that come to mind.

Did you imaagine I was actually trying to find god? Anyway back to the question of why are we here and where are we going to.

We are no different than any other animal on earth. Whay is a lamb here because it is food. The same applies to us. Only 10,000 years ago we were also food and did not live beyond 50 years old. But in reality we are still food because after death our flesh also get eaten.

So really the reason why we are here is becasie we are in the cycle of life. Have you ever considered that mankind could go exticnt of we kill all the bees. Isn't it amazing that planats in the forest grow taller to get to sunlife so they can survive.

Certain questions asked does not always have answers at the time the question is asked, but it does not mean an answer does not exist and that it can be answered at a different time.

Questions of God is a perfect example.

And there was me thinking you were a realist. You think after not having a single piece of evidence for the existance of god, one day we may have some evidence that god exist. It will take longer than pigs evolving to fly. But then again there has to be an advantage in nature for living things to evolve.

How can there be god when the starting point is hydrogen gas. And after 5 billion years we have what we have today and by all accounts in about 5 billion years time we wil burn back to being gas again.

But the best part is the belief that jesus died and came back to life again only to die soon after.

Even by today's medical standards doctors cannot decide whether a body is dead or alive. The question is when is the body dead? Is it when the heart stops or is it when the brain stops. And here we have people believing that it was possible for people to decide that a person died and came back to life again 2000 years ago. Don't start me on virgin birth. It is almost as believable as Rambo defeating the whole vietcong single handed.
