First Flight since Covid-19...

Postby Kikapu » Sun Jun 27, 2021 2:23 pm

My last flight was last February 2020 from San Francisco to Zurich, a time which we couldn’t even spell Coronavirus, although we were just getting to hear about it, of a virus in China. Tomorrow we will take our first flight since then to Palma de Mallorca. Only a short flight, less than 2 hours for a week of R&R. Looking forward to being in the air again. :D

Hope it’s a good one.

My first ever flight was in a BAC111 from Luton to Palma (1968), with the GF. Now the Mrs of 50 years. We felt so sophisticated. :D

...good for you. I was travelling (not vaccinated) across Canada during the COVID peak; it was nerve wracking, getting home and wondering if the virus had followed me home.

There has been a lot of Covid related information gathering and paperwork needed to be done despite having been fully vaccinated to be able to fly to the Spanish island. It has taken away the fun of spontaneous travel at a drop of a hat for sure.

If this trip goes well, next flight will be to San Francisco in August. :D

Well enjoy your trip.

Domestic travel in Australia is well on its way to recovery too - about 70% of pre Covid levels from what I can eyeball but still a few pilots not working. But they are doing 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off so that most are current.

But yesterday, we saw the return of hard borders between certain states. Sydney in particular has a developing community transmitting cluster.

A lot of people saying it’s because the vaccines administration by the government is a literal cluster fuck. But I’m looking at Cyprus which has had an exceptional vaccine take up and administration and their cases are going ballistic once again as they are headed for another wave. Cyprus looks to be off to the races again.

So, I’ll like to know at this point whether the vaccines actually work.

Departure from Zurich on Monday was uneventful, which upon dropping off the bags with Swiss, we had to present our Covid Vaccination Certificates issued online few days earlier and that was it. After less than 2 hours of comfortable flight on A-340, we were on the ground at Palma de Mallorca.

Here at PMI, there was a very strict controlling of the online forms we had filled out only 24 hours earlier to enter any Spanish territories where the QR code’s were scanned and verified that we can continue to the baggage claim area. Overall, the trip went very well. Return trip home is expected to be even easier.

Since then, I have been enjoying great Gin & Tonics at the hotel, about half price what we get charged in Switzerland. :D
