Car Number Plate Format

Postby Lordo » Tue Apr 27, 2021 9:19 pm

A car with ZCF595 number plate was spotted in an area in February 7th 1964. It may well be connected with a GC civilian who had gone missing on the days this car was spotted in that particular area.

Can anybody tell me if they recognise the number plate format. Is this a GC number plate or a TC number plate or even if there was any difference in number plates at this time.

Three letters back in the 60's? If so, when did they go back to two?

Alright,

Why do you want to know this anyway and why should this persons information be made public for you?

Up until 1990 cars registered in ROC had 2 letters

i.e I had a 1982 Toyota its reg was MU346

I remember also that hire cars had a 'z' identifier before the 2 Letters but this didn't come into effect I think until the early 70s from what I can gather looking online

Pre 1974 there would not have been any distinction between GC and TC number plates so the number you give could have been used by any Cypriot
