Why were they so indifferent?
Why did the Cypriots flee for Europe, North America and Australia instead of Syria, Lebanon and the Levant?
Why did they spur on the Ottoman disease?

ME countries like Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, etc played a crucial role in Cyprus’ recovery; from the 74 Turkish invasion/occupation, throughout the 80s and 90s thanks to J&P.
I’m sure you’ve heard of J&P constructions (Joannou and Paraskevaides), well it was through them that half of Cypriot males were able to find work in J&Ps huge ME projects, which not only led to Cyprus’ financial recovery but also to gradual prosperity.
I’ve lost count how many friends and relatives would talk about their trips to and from the ME earning top dollar, while countries like Oman, Kuwait and others were undergoing massive modernization and we the Cypriots were the first to kick-start this phenomenon.
Today the world looks at the skylines of the capitals of such countries in awe, unaware that they are built on Cypriot steel-reinforced concrete foundations!
So great was the ME business contribution to Cyprus that by the mid 90s Cyprus was buying high tech S2A missile systems way before Greece or Turkey could even dream of them!

I can testify Cypriots worked in the ME after the Ottoman Savages destroyed our country.
I have first hand knowledge.
But still....

Well, in return we took in three waves of Christian Lebanese refugees during their civil wars, and partook in countless pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
I think we got more than we gave…
