The US 'Ship' is continuing to turn..

Unprecedented developments.
We're basically giving the United States a base in Larnaca..

...i just hope that others in the region take advantage of this facility, or Cyprus is toast.

I don’t get it! Why is Cyprus toast?

For the first time in history, the US is taking an interest in Cyprus as a partner and ally. Surely, this is something to welcome is it not?

Throughout our history since 1960 for some reason, we have not been fortunate enough to be able to look at the US like other countries do. Now, things are slowly turning for us.

...if it is a ruse, and no one shows up, (not interested in the training offered) we are not important allies, but a target for anti-American feelings, and isolated rather than non-aligned.

It is sure to provoke Russian sentiments, as an opportunity to create an atmosphere of regret in Cyprus, for Cypriots.

...although it may be good news, the risk depends on American motives. If their policy toward Cyprus actually has remained unchanged, what then; who remembers Acheson, and, Kissinger?

Of course Turkey's reaction has been negative, yet Turkey's attitude is always negative, and accordingly, in that regard she will find another way to retaliate, against the notion of a Free Cyprus.

...what will America do differently, now?

Paphitis, America doesn’t give a shit about Cyprus so here’s what’s really happening…

Cyprus, is intentionally delaying EU sanctions against Belarus to pressure EU members to act against Turkey.

Without Cyprus’ readiness/vote the Belarus plan is currently stagnant and cannot budge (sitting on Nico's desk collecting dust) and that’s why Pompeo rushed over to see Nicos!

He figured he’d throw another fishbone at Cyprus so they won’t delay/block the Belarus sanctions any further.

This ‘US training center” is nothing but garbage the Americans quickly invented to coerce Nicos to forget his “little” Turkish problem and quit delaying/blocking the “greater (American) scheme of things”.

Btw, Russia must’ve also promised Cyprus something to delay/block the Belarus plan which is why the Russian FM was here just prior to the American.

It doesn’t surprise me Russia wants to delay the sanctions against Belarus. That’s Russia’s little puppet regime.

You know Get Real, if it’s true that the US doesn’t give an F... about Cyprus, then we are to blame. We have been taking the piss with the yanks since 1960. We should never have done that. Most EU countries have 5 star relations with the Yanks. We should have as well.

I believe you are wrong though. I read Pompeo’s official statement and it was pretty damning against Turkey. He made it very clear that Turkey was conducting illegal survey Ops in areas under the RoC’s jurisdiction.

As for Belarus, I don’t think the Americans care. It’s of no significance to America at all.

There are much higher concerns for the US than Belarus. And in my opinion, I think both the US and Russia are scheming to take good care of Chy-na.

Anastasiades is doing the right thing if the EU want sanctions against Belarus. Put the sanctions on Turkey either at the same time or beforehand. Intelligent!

...i'll throw this article here, if anyone remembers the "Cyprus Solution" that Putin talked about, regarding Georgia.

Russia Reopens De Facto Border With Georgia's Breakaway Region Of South Ossetia

https://www.rferl.org/a/russia-reopens- ... 39708.html

...Cyprus, if it cannot integrate its neighbours into a collective, will find no friend in Russia, (nor the USA).

The US does care.
American and Israeli interests.
CYP and Israeli EEZ's overlapping and the construction of the EastMed gas pipeline.
Trillions of dollars of which US companies are directly involved.

Paphitis is correct in one respect.
We were too anti American for far too long.

Cyprus had 3 guarantors.
Greece betrayed us
So called 'Turkey' invaded us
And the UK stood idly by and watched it all burn down.

Guarantors my ass.

Cyprus is its own guarantor.

Reading American news about this venture is hopeful, because they discuss its creation and the capacity building from it, from a regional perspective.

...if the Americans are sincere, it will help the region as individual states in securing their borders; and it will secure Cyprus as a hub for such regional affairs.

So you suppose the foreign ministers of the world’s two greatest powers, rushed to meet Nicos just 1-2 days apart because they heard him crying about his gas? :?

And how/where does the Russian FM fit into your understanding of the events?
