Lordo painted himself inexorably into a corner and - unless he was in to sustained ridicule - probably thought he had no way out in here. I don't think your case is the same.
We all get to pay some price for a bit of excessive hubris though.
I picked up an interesting article from the DT a couple of days ago, on how life as an airline pilot has lost all it's glamour and sucks nowadays. I'll post it (paywalled) later for your inside opinion.
I'm not worried about anything LR. In the end, my predictions were the closest. There was no blue wave and Trump has a lot of support. It is however, a very sad day that someone like Biden is in office. The people of America will suffer.
The airline industry is in a lot of pain today.
Probably a lot of glamour in the old days, with pilots working 2 days a week for a big pay packet. Nowadays, airlines do try a get their money's worth. Pay packets are still very good. depends on how you are making comparisons. First Officer pay in most airlines isn't good at all.
Second Officer at Cathay Pacific is about $50,000 per annum AUD.
But LR, there isn't anything like walking across the tarmac at Sydney or Brisbane or walking down the jet bridge with the crew.
I can only ever do 2 things in life LR. One is fly planes.
If not flying planes, I can only work for myself. I am fortunate enough to have the brains to be able to do this.
I can never work in any public service, office or some other job like that.
I was very much looking forward to my indoctrination into the US system. he system over there consumes you. You are flying 4 day cycles, with 2 to 3 days off in between. 3 to 5 sectors a day. All over the country from LagGuardia to LA and the variety is insane, and extremely automated, and systematic, Dam Chy-na Virus.
I've done a lot of things in my career, including working as a consultant for a firm in Perth. I was on about $1000 a day as a consultant for the resource sector for 6 months writing their manuals. Great money but I got to fly. I dread the day I can't fly no more, I still get used in hat capacity writing FCOMs but I don't like it.
They are trying to shove me into the box (simulator) which is a great endorsement for me, but I don't want to. I can play video games with my son. Spending 4 days a week at Ansett doesn't tickle my fancy and the only lure is more money.
