Some fools just never learn… don’t fuck with people’s religions!

PS: I don’t have an account there for the full article but the headline pretty much tells the story.

Btw, now is a good time to stock up on the popcorn…

Charlie Hebdo republishes notorious Mohammed caricatures on eve of trial over killings
We will never lie down, says Charlie Hebdo on eve of murder trial as it republishes Mohammed caricatures that prompted Islamist attack

Charlie Hebdo has republished a series of controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed on the eve of the trial of the alleged accomplices in the attack.

The drawings sparked fury in the Muslim world and prompted Islamist brothers Said and Cherif Kouachi to kill 12 people, including some of France's most celebrated cartoonists, at the satirical weekly's offices in Paris on January 7, 2015.

In an editorial, director Laurent "Riss" Sourisseau, one of the few survivors of the attack, wrote: "We will never lie down. We will never give up."

The only reason not to republish them would, he added, stem from "political or journalistic cowardice".

"Rare are those who, five years later, dare oppose the demands that are still so pressing from religions in general, and some in particular," he wrote.

The assailants were killed in the wake of the massacre but 14 people go on trial in Paris on Wednesday over the attack and two others on a policewoman and four people in a Jewish supermarket that took place over the two following days.

The cover of the latest Charlie Hebdo issue features a dozen cartoons first published by the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten in 2005 - and then reprinted by Charlie Hebdo in 2006 - which triggered fury across the Muslim world.

Centre-page on the cover is a cartoon of the prophet penned by Jean Cabut, known as Cabu, who died in the massacre.

The front-page reads: "All of this, just for that."

Its editorial team insisted that it was "essential" to republish the cartoons as the trial opens.

"We have often been asked since January 2015 to print other caricatures of Mohammed," it said.

"We have always refused to do so, not because it is prohibited - the law allows us to do so - but because there was a need for a good reason to do it, a reason which has meaning and which brings something to the debate."

The French Council of the Muslim Faith wrote on Twitter: "The freedom to caricature and the freedom to dislike them are enshrined and nothing justifies violence." It advised Muslims to simply "ignore" them.

The paper's caustic satire and anti-clericalism has seen it hailed a champion of free speech for many in France.

The massacre united the country in grief with the slogan #JeSuisCharlie (I Am Charlie) going viral.

However, a recent poll suggested that half the French now support the “right to criticise a religious belief, symbol or dogma”. Most opponents were under 25.

"In a world that calls itself secular, a France that describes itself as less and less religious, blasphemy has paradoxically become a major taboo," Anastasia Colosimo, a professor of political theology at the Sciences Po university in Paris, told AFP.

"Anti-clericalism or atheism is increasingly seen as offensive. It is no longer fashionable."

Wednesday's trial will see more than 140 witnesses heard over 49 days in a case seen by victims and families as a legal landmark over Kalashnikov killings that shocked France and the world. It will be filmed for state archives.

French anti-terror prosecutor Jean-François Ricard said the trial was of “double interest”, namely “to approach the truth” and to grant victims “a moment of expression” over the first weeks of the trial - “a first”.

Eleven of the accused were swiftly arrested but three vanished in Syria and will be tried in absentia.

Among them is Hayat Boumedienne, 25-year old wife of Amedy Coulibaly - the Jewish supermarket and policewoman killer - who is believed to have encouraged his attack and was reportedly spotted in Iraq last winter.

Most of the accused are charged with association with a terrorist group but two, Mohamed Belhoucine and Ali Riza Polat, are accused of complicity, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Mr Polat, 35, a French citizen of Turkish origin, will be in court. Prosecutors say he procured the guns used by the three killers.

After the Charlie massacre, France went on to suffer a string of deadly attacks, notably on November 13, 2015 when 130 people died and hundreds more were wounded in shootings and bombings in an around Paris, notably at the Bataclan concert hall.

On Monday, Gérald Darminin, the French interior minister, said that there were currently 8,000 people on a terror watchlist in France and that the terror threat remains “extremely high”, notably from Sunni extremists.

At least half a dozen plots have been foiled this year, say authorities.

Another example of how DANGEROUS this bullshit about a creator really is. A minute amount of logic would tell any one person that the entire concept of a creator is nothing more than stupid MYTHOLOGICAL NONSENSE.A man made out of fucking dust and a woman from his rib. What a load of scatoligical nonsense.
