BG,
I also agree that this issue has to be agreed in a humanitarian way. I believe Greek Cyriots also agree on this, because from the proposals that were put forward by the GC leaders, I understand that they just want to reduce the number of settlers/immigrants that will stay.
Reaching to a solution is vital for the Turkish Cypriot community, so we cannot demand that all of them stay in Cyprus after a solution, knowing that this can prevent a solution. A solution is also better for settlers/immigrants because they have realized what the situation in Cyprus is after the checkpoints were opened. They live in great uncertainty. Many accept to go back to Turkey. Since it was Turkey that brought these people here, then Turkey should accept the responsibility. Turkey should build housing and relocate the remaining settlers/immigrants from GC property. Turkey again should convince and take care of the ones that will have to go.
I applaud your ability to comporomise, but I am afraid Piratis fails to appreciate it. He will continue to demand that ALL settlers must go. I never said that all immigrants or settlers should be forced to stay, but those that have now developed very strong links to Cyprus such as being married to Cypriots or being born in Cyprus, and those who have arrived in Cyprus in good faith to search for a better life should be given the choice to stay.
I am surprised you do not feel any indignation at the way Piratis denigrates the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Why is it that the entirely greek controlled roc can accept settlers and immigrants, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus cannot do that? Do you agree with the evaluation of Piratis on the issue that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is illegal?
What about the Brittish settlers, will they be deported after a solution too?
