As I recall without checking up it was more the idea of Turkey as a nation imminent demise that I was questioning. It does at times feel this has been predicted by those that would like to see such from at least 1950 and yet the state still exists. Anyway.

For me I in many ways and on many levels welcome the current economic melt down, even though I have TL income (thankfully also euro and sterling income as well), if it hastens the end of Erdogan's rule in Turkey. AK party came to power on a ticket of economic reform and have remained in power, I think, for so long because they did in the first 7-10 years or so of their rule deliver on this. Not just to a rich elite, but to a large mass of ordinary Turkish people. If that has kept them in power then it should also spell the end of their rule as I see things.

The only way, (in my opinion) that Erdogan will be ousted is through bloodshed and force. Basically a civil war.

Too many people stand to lose too much privilege and interests in all the important institutions and across every nook and cranny of society for him to succumb to the fair and transparent outcome of the ballot box.

He is, more likely, going to radicalize Turkey even further and declare the state a caliphate to maintain and advance his position and power structures.

We are talking about a Islamo dictator here, a disillusioned master of the universe.....

Turkeys main opposition leader said today that erdogan should sack his son in law,

pro kurdish peoples party are asking if erdogans son in law will resign.

They are saying Turks are becoming impoverished, the cost of living is unbearable and unemployment is rising. The current administration is completely inept at managing the economy but this is where they are going wrong.

The central bank is no longer independent. Erdogan sacked the previous central bank governor because he was standing up to him and doing the right thing by raising interest rates. His son in law is just a puppet and does as he is told.

Erdogan is in control of the central bank. He dismissed any criticism over the economy and says, the lira crisis is tied to the corona virus. It will settle once that is over.

we sold more cars and fridges over the past two decades than ever before. The economy is soaring

Indeed, there is a problem with Turkey in Washington...

...and Flynn.

While the State Dept is alone in its support of Erdogan, how many (more) are on his payroll?

Yes, they have tried everything short of a coup and civil war and i wouldn't write off the latter just yet.

Now, with the elections just around the corner. They have stepped up their game with lunacy and mayhem, hoping it will boost their popularity.

Fools. I tell you, they will lose real bad.

What passes off as the political left in America these days, is nothing more than lunatics trying to govern.

They are out of touch with reality man, they are going to lose real bad.

I regard it as a sort of Morton's fork choice election (not a big Trump fan). A bit like asking you to vote for either May or Corbyn

Nevertheless, I worry that Biden just doesn't have what it takes to sit across the table from the likes of Putin. I can see us ending up in a war, precipitated by pre-Munich type events. At least with Donald - who seems to be relatively non-interventionist - it's primarily tended to take the form of left-wing indignation about Tweets. Shock! Horror!

Anyway, it's certainly going to be an interesting 3 months, both in the US and UK. Add to that the pandemic and.............................. may you live in interesting times.

Yes, its not that trump is that great,

It is just that the dems are really bad and that makes Trump seem really good in comparison and given all the options.

They are doing more damage to their cause than good and that indirectly helps Trump win.
