Techie Question

Postby B25 » Sun Apr 19, 2020 4:37 pm

Can anyone shed any light on this?

More recently whenever I open up the forum on certain sections it automatically down loads a file called : Index.html.

Its getting annoying now as it may do it two or three times. The file size is 44kb if that helps.

I also notice it does it on some newspaper links. I have to keep deleting them as I am suspicious of unknown files.

Anyone?

Interesting you should say that. I have recently had the same thing on the iPad (but not PC). It asks me though whether I want to download it. Which I don't of course.

it has been happening globally as far as I know. It appears to be some 'bug' to do with google syndication of news stories. I have not investigated too much as from what I can see there is not risk involved, its just an annoyance.

BTW. After a trawl of Google I emptied the cache and browsing history, with the usual effects, only to have the pop-up reappear when changing pages on the forum again. :(

It’s all the diarrhea that Paphitis is posting that’s causing all these technical problems on the forum! :?

Such erratic behavior is usually the result of a lack of browser and/or system maintenance.

A good place to start towards a solution is to clear your browser’s cache.

Don’t ask me where that setting is because there are 100 different browsers out there, so you’ll have to use the Internet for help.

Don't mind Get Real. He seems to be a little slow.

I think he is still hung up on UK's 20.5 Trillions as a result of its military operations on The Isle of Man.

Upon that failing I would shut the offending browser down and fire up another brand to see if it’s browser-specific.

If all browsers are behaving the same then I would shut all software down and thoroughly clean up the system… junk files, registry, services, etc.

If it’s only the one browser brand then I would investigate all its settings, add-ons and such, turn cache off and then on again, etc.

Go easy on the diarrhea Paphitis… can’t you see you’re wrecking the forum for others?

Wouldn't have even come into this thread if it wasn't for your post Get Real.
