I have to disagree in some respects with both CG & GR on this.

There's been a tremendous upsurge in public support in the UK for the NHS during this crisis.

For his imminent 100th birthday Tom Moore - who's clearly a quite patriotic man - decided to show his own support by trying to raise £1000 for them via a charitable event, within his capabilities. His efforts ended up going viral though and the people of Britain took him to their hearts. In the end donating millions of pounds.

The idea that he did it for some sort of political reason is absurd.

In essence, what he did wasn't all that different from the likes of the annual "Children in Need", "Red Nose Day" and "Sport relief" events. Where, again, the generosity of the British public is apparent in the tens of millions that they regularly contribute to the various causes.

Those who try to portray this as some sort of political indictment on government funding need to get a life. They obviously have no inkling of the fundamentally charitable nature of the average British person.
