When Paphitis links to a BBC article that explicitly says Australia was not the first country to impose a partial travel ban on non citizens travelling from china and uses it to prove his statement that Australia was the first country to do so, what do you see ? I see something akin to an extreme degree of confirmation bias. Am I the 'crazy one' here in seeing such ?
Sorry but I never said Australia was the very first. i said it was one of the first as it closed its borders on 9th of March, 2 days after the USA, and 1 day after New Zealand.
The very first was non other than Taiwan which closed its borders on 31st of December, 2019. I have always maintained that Taiwan was the first to do it by a long shot and have also maintained they were blatantly disregarded by WHO. Well look who's laughing now.
I have however maintained that Australia's response to chy-na Virus has probably been the most effective response in the world, along with South Korea. When Australia shut its borders, it ramped up the restrictions very quickly from their and now public gatherings of more than 2 people are restricted. You can be issued a fine for gathering in groups of more than 2.
I have been on the receiving end of this Police State whilst travelling to and from work (I won't be doing that now as I am on leave UFN). The police lines, at every domestic airport gate makes me think I am not in Australia. it's very full on and there is also army soldiers waiting and putting the selected into lines to be put on Army buses and taken to their isolation. It's literally surreal.
It's actually quite amazing witnessing what my country is capable of and how they handle a State of Emergency. On the one hand, it's worrying but on the other hand I feel Australia is capable of winning any war.
