Still no confirmed Corona cases in Cyprus, but for how long?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Another interesting article I read this morning...

Thaddeus Michaels: Why did the whole world lose its nerve?

The conclusion...

How do we escape this?

Eventually, we run into the old reality that ‘facts don’t care about your feelings’. Covid-19 hysteria is an emotional, identity-driven position masquerading as a set of facts.

It has spread so widely, though, that there are few control cases available for comparison, besides Sweden.

Sweden is a useful example for lockdown sceptics, but it is too easy for pro-lockdown voices to dismiss Sweden as an outlier country that anyway experienced a higher death toll than neighbouring countries.

On individual questions like school closures, we are starting to see some emerging evidence that the hysterics were wrong. Perhaps similar evidence will emerge soon on measures like track and trace, mask wearing, and so on.

Many of the ‘Covid Hero’ countries like New Zealand will see that status diminish as they find themselves vulnerable to imported outbreaks. That may help to recalibrate the debate.

Sadly, though, I fear it will only be the rampant social, economic and psychological destruction we inflict on the world’s youth that will eventually up-end the mainstream consensus.

PS Mrs. Cyprusgrump re-plastered for another 4 weeks on Friday...

I couldn't go into the hospital as I had the previous two visits because of 'increasing cases'...

...but the doctor removed his mask when she got into his office and told her to do the same...

This is the real pandemic out there. Suicide!

The suicide increase in just 2 states is about five times higher than COVID itself.

As some of us have been saying for some time...

Plus excess deaths from inability to access cancer screening and treatment... Not to mention the number of people that died at home of heart attack because they were too scared to go to A & E...

Overall, Covid (total World Wide deaths to date ~800,000) seems an incompetent killer compared to the likes of the 'Spanish' Flu (50m) or even a bad yearly winter flu...

But bizarrely, there are still people like ErLOLZ that are convinced it is the worst thing ever....

The hard numbers show the scale of this event is biggest since (I am now convinced 1918 but take your pick, last 25 years, 1968). The other numbers that you say 'vindicate' that of excess deaths most are not covid-19, are NOT hard. They are guesses / opinions etc. Nor do they stack up if you blame 'lockdown' for excess deaths and compare ONS hard numbers with Swedens hard numbers (see using ONLY hard numbers). Seeing same degree of excess in both despite differences in lock down, to date.

Convinced...

Wow! This is a good article with plenty of links to research...

Save Yourself: Stop Believing in Lockdown

Storied minds have argued that a failure to critically examine our beliefs makes us culpable for adverse outcomes. Beliefs lead to actions, which impact other people.

As Voltaire wrote during the Enlightenment — when society still had time away from the screen to reflect on philosophy, morality, and fundamental truth — “those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.”

This has never been more true than in the age of social media, when information and opinions constantly bombard us from all sides, isolating us from our own thoughts and values. We have a moral duty to critically examine our beliefs — especially our belief in “lockdown,” the most oppressive and universally destructive public policy implemented in our lifetimes.

Is it the least-restrictive means available to minimize casualties in this pandemic?

Our belief in it was formed when we felt legitimate fear — this can lead to irrationality — so we really cannot answer this question in good conscience unless and until we take the time to conduct a proper, honest examination with the benefit of hindsight.

Any number of atrocities can occur when human beings act on unfounded, unexamined beliefs.

Do read it all....

...and then there is...

With Covid in retreat, the real battle now is against hysteria

We lead the world in irrational fear of Covid-19, and risk coming out of this crisis increasingly incapacitated and poorer

Britain seems doomed to follow the same trajectory as the aviator and film mogul Howard Hughes: while wealthy and successful we are becoming increasingly incapacitated by an irrational fear of germs...

Covid in retreat eh...?
