There seems to be a lot of confusion between Bill Gates, the human being who amassed a great fortune mainly by getting the patent on software developed by others and then deriving monopoly profits from this, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which is a juristic entity. As to what motivates the former, one can only speculate, but I don't find it inconceivable that he could be motivated by a desire to convert his great wealth into political power, or to advance his own personal agendas (he seems to have an obsession with vaccines) or to gain personal glory (he seems to love being feted as a "health expert" in interviews on media outlets his foundation funds). On the other hand, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation appears to be acting, in the guise of philanthropy, as a front for a nexus of various powerful interest groups, at the very least big pharma, and to be furthering an agenda that serves these interests. A distinction needs to be drawn between the activities of the former, and the activites of the former when acting as front man for the latter, and the activities of the latter.
