Good meeting with Kikapu

Postby MR-from-NG » Tue Jan 14, 2020 4:28 pm

Had a nice meal, drink and a chat with Kikapu. Met at The Salisbury Pub in St Martins Lane Covent Garden. The pub is a proper authentic English pub and the decor and atmosphere was great. I'm a great fan of Fish & Chips and this pub did not disappoint. There are 2 places I go to for F&S and they are Toffs at Muswell Hill and Cannons in Southgate. Tbh, the F&S served at the Salisbury was just as good if not better than these places.

Kikapu was good company and I'm really glad to have met him. I called him all sorts of names in the past, I even called him a cunt on a few occasions. Well, Kicks, you're probably waiting for an apology  You're not getting one because I still think you're a cunt for being my age but looking 20 year younger

I like Kicks.
I like Cypriots in general.
Maybe I'll meet him too.

Thank you for the kind words, MR. :D

After viewpoint, MR had to be the second CF member I have had the most arguments and insults thrown at each other since 2006 when we both joined CF about the same time. Even at recent past we have exchanged nastiness at each other, so agreeing to meet with MR was a major step to take for both of us. I had arranged to meet at The Salisbury Pub as I had been there twice last year, because of it’s good location, Victorian decor, great food, no TVs, no loud music, no trivial games, therefore, a very pleasant atmosphere to have a one to one conversation.

I had seen a photo of MR from about 10 years ago I believe when a group of CF members met in Cyprus, so I had a vague idea what he might look like, and as soon as he walked into the Pub, he was looking straight at me and I at him. I am sure we were the only two Cypriots in the fairly full pub. We had few drinks and a meal which lasted more than three hours and at no point were there any regrets in our meeting each other. We had talked as if we had been friends for a long time. It is funny how we are all different in person vs. when we are behind the keyboards anonymously. It is true when it is said “not to judge a book by it’s cover”, which it truly applies on ALL of us on the Cyprus Forum. On the CF we may call each other “cunts” from time to time, but in reality, it is not what we really mean. :D

As for my youthful looks, it is true to have been lucky to have had good genes to appear much younger on the outside and inside, than what one might expect to see for my age, despite having had gone through some difficult journeys I have had without going into details. It is good to be alive, well & youthful, and if that makes me a cunt MR, than I accept it with pleasure! :D

MR is the 5th CF member I have met in person over the years and just for the record, I have enjoyed meeting them all.

...speaking of cunts, i must say it is one of those profanities i take great offence to.

Yet, what is a cunt but a gash in a tree, to be exact where it was once split apart, the resulting wound; as such, being Cypriot perhaps, it seems fitting you call each other cunts at times, two sides of the same gash and the same tree.

...thanks guys; now it's funny.

I had the pleasure of meeting both of these gentlemen a few years back.
It re-enforced my held views that there are
real True Cypriots amongst us. Kikapu visited my office where he also met my late wife, gave her a wonderful box of Swiss chocolates. MR and I attented the funeral of a T/C who passed away prematurely.
I would love to share a drink with both of these Cypriots, I do hope they will contact me when either visits our Motherland, our Cyprus. May I say that I have met very many CY members, some no longer posting. Halil, Bananiot, Iceman , the late Kafenes,
Of recent Londonrake, Robin Hood and of course Tim Drayton whom I see every evening, he lives nearby and pops in every evening for a chat. I was pleased to have had Tims company at my family's Xmas lunch. All I consider as mates.

Hi John. It would be great to get together again one day soon. We might be lucky and have people like B25, Sotos, Maximus, Cyprusgrump, Londonrake, RobinHood etc join us too. Paphitis would be most welcome too but he'll have to refuel his aeroplane a few times along the way and that might be a bit costly for him.

Kikapu, safe travels my friend.

Thanks MR,

I am home once again in Switzerland as of few hours ago. Once again, thanks for the time spent together at the “The Salisbury Pub”.
Next time I will take care of the tab! :D

Kicks, you were kind enough to share the details of some of your difficult journeys in life and I must say it would have needed immense courage and determination to get through such challenging times. For that you have my admiration. I hope you'll be meeting more of our CF members so that you can share those moments with them too.

If I may just give a quick synopsis? Kicks stared his journey to the US with just £500.00 in his pocket and had no one to turn to for help or guidance. He was just a kid and miraculously managed to start a life and succeed in a place like America. Anyone with this capability has my admiration.

In the old days, money taken out of the country were recorded in your passport, so I just looked in my cancelled old passport to see this. :P

Of course, in September of 1979 the £=$ exchange rate was a lot different.
