If personal experience is any factor few should be better at spotting a straw man argument than yourself ;)

The notion is really not that complex. Sterling is at the same level today, post election, as it was before it, because the election has not in fact removed the uncertainty over brexit. The uncertainty is the same and thus the value of sterling is the same. Sterling, I predict, will bounce around between 1.10 and 1.20 ish euro as no deal exit appears more or less likely each day. Just as it has done since we voted to leave in the first place back in 2016. This pattern will not break until we, now lead by a majority leave government, actually finally decide what leaving means within the realms of the possible. Nothing has really changed re the uncertainty and risks around a no deal exit from the EU and thus nothing has changed in terms of the range sterling trades in vs the euro and the factors that push it up or down withing that range. No deal more likely, sterling falls within that range. Less likely it increases within that range. That has been the case since the ref vote in 2016. It is still the case now post Johnson's glorious victory.

If you think there is a better explanation for why sterling has not held the immediate gains post election that it first got (and you were quick to point out here) that is not related to continuing uncertainty even after Johnson's victory, then please do feel free to share such. Then again that might start to feel like actual discussion were you to do so, so I guess you will not if past performance is any guide to future performance.

This is a new era for English politics so lets embrace it. It is the era of pantomime politics and all things going well it will encourage younger generations to take notice. Boris has already had an impact in my household in that my grandchildren will never miss anything anytime he appears on our TV screens.

I am however still trying to explain he has not replaced Mr Tumble and he is our new prime minister but I've not been successful thus far

Johnson has less than half the majority Blair had in both 1997 & 2001. Thatcher had 63 seats more in 83 and 42 more in 87. Wilson +18 in 66. "Adolph" Macmillan +20 in 59.

Atlee - that famous dictator - +66 in 1945. Lloyd George - the Welsh tyrant - 158 more in 1918.

Perspective: a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something  That is - let's forget about the recent election + history and continue with the "Bash Boris" stuff.

I admire your prescience. Given the man has only effectively been PM for a matter of days. Not to mention your impressive mastery of the English language of course. Come back Lordo, all is forgiven.

Watch and weep loser!

The UK is the boss over the EU now! Get over it! The EU just got OWNED! Defeated.

The EU tried to fight and internationally embarrass the UK and now they are going to pay a very high price.

BORIS has all the aces and not before time. He is passing a law that will outlaw any extensions beyond the end of 2020 whether there is an agreement or not Now watch the panic in the EU. Watch and learn! :D

So yeh, NO DEAL BREXIT will be passed as law if things go bad. Time to panic now EU... 8)

Once again, this is the stupidity of the voters and they deserve all the shit that will rain on them if and when a no deal Brexit becomes a reality. One thing for sure, the EU is not going to be pushed around by Boris. They knew all along Boris is a charlatan and cannot be trusted to have an agreed Brexit. The EU has been ready for a no deal Brexit all along. Boris can have all the bravado grandstanding he wants, but the EU will not give into him. The truth is, the Tories want a no deal Brexit, so that they can fuck the workers, water down environmental protections and protections on food and drugs. They will have less human rights protections to a point of a “police state”. I am glad I don’t live in the UK.

here we go again. Get a result you don't like, so now the voters must be stupid hey?

What we are about to see is a Government that can Govern for the interests of the UK at large. It will be able to negotiate from a position of strength to get the best result and outcome for the UK.

To have the same as the last 3.5 years would have been a disaster for the UK.

The result is a democratic one. The people had their say and passed their verdict. This verdict is that they want an outcome and for all the arguing to end, and BORIS is in a position to deliver this one way or another. For the first time, the British people can feel at ease knowing that team GB is going to fight for them for British interests.

This PM has put a foot wrong yet.

And that includes his determination to invest vast amounts of money into the NHS and law enforcement.

But not just that, the guy has hardly been in office and he has managed to cut through to the people and get BREXIT done which is clearly what the people want and need.
