I just responded to Lordos get well wishes he posted in Turkish. Just in case you are going to use Bing or similar to see it in English I will tell you what I said. I ended my message to him by saying the GC education system will never allow us to have a meaningful debate on the Cyprus problem. Sad but true.
it is not just the gc education that is responsible for this, their parents are equally responsoble for filling their children's minds with hate and so is the military service they have to do. i mean imagine having to shout out at the top of your voice "the only good tergg is a dead tergg". it can't do any good to your well being. I mean they start from such a low level anyway and the only way from thre is downhill.
Unfortunately this is the sad case. From infancy to adulthood they are taught to hate anything Turkish. Having said that, I've come across many young GC's having a great time with their TC friends in Kyrenia.
My son went to Latymer SAchool One of the best schools in London, at least it was 20-25 years ago. They had an event where all kids from all cultures had to make food unique to their country and culture. My wife made lots of stuff as well as buying things from Aroma Patisserie in Palmers Greek (Green but commonly known as Greek) as this area is predominantly Greek.
Anyway, my son displayed all his food and sweets and innocently put a little TC flag (one of those table top type) to indicate where the food originated from. We were getting ready to attend when we got a call from the headmaster asking us if we could kindly consider not attending as an angry Greek family swiped everything my son displayed off the table. I told him I would drive to the school and if he could please keep my son safe for me to collect him and bring him home.
Of course my son was very upset and was in tears. I was later again contacted by the headmaster apologising for what had occurred and assured me the family responsible had been reprimanded and he sympathised with us and my son.
At no stage did my wife or I say anything bad about the Greeks. We kept it simple and explained the family responsible was just ignorant and Turk hating Greeks and not all Greeks were like them. He understood this very well as he had both Greek girl and boy friends. Anyway, my old man always says, there are 2 things going against us. We are Turkish and Muslim.
