Border Control here in Australia is actually Australian Customs.
It's a Federal Agency and have their finger in the pie with Drug Smuggling, Gun Running, Bio Security, The Fisheries Department, Defence Forces, Security Agencies, and The Federal Police.
They even have their own Coastguard, and operate their own Aircraft and Helicopters.
It's not an organization that you can easily mess with because they have a lot of powers and to work for them requires a security Clearance.
They have been involved in many things including the time they intercepted a Norwegian Ship with illegal immigrants to not allow it into Australian Waters (Tampa Crisis) with Australian SAS Soldiers who Commandeered the ship to Indonesia and held the Ship, it's crew, and the illegal immigrants for several days just outside Indonesian Waters, the Ships last departing port till Indonesia let the ship in.
The SAS used the opportunity for training at the time.
The Norwegian Government accused Australia of Piracy on the high seas which the Australians denied and basically said we don't care and take us to the ICJ if you feel that way. I believe Norway reported Australia to the UN GA that time for breaking International Law but Australia ignored it saying that Australian Government Policy is to not allow any ships into Australian Waters when they have broken Australian Law and threatened Norway that all Norwegian Flagged Shipping will be embargoed from Australia if they continue to carry on.
So they do have teeth and they can be incredibly rude people too.
