Is it true you can get guns, drugs and (this is for Milti's benefit) East European blondes on there?
For most people, security could just mean doing the following:
1) use DuckDuckGo as a web browser - this is the only web browser that takes privacy very seriously and which doesn't collect your data. but there is a price. You do not get the best overall search results when for instance you are wanting to look for a business.
Therefore, sometimes we need to use Google which does collect data - but even so, you can limit the kinds of data Google can collect and attribute to your profile to target adds.
2) Use uBlock Origin - and customize it to suit your browsing requirements.
For most people that's enough.
Also the new Mozilla Firefox has great security features.
But if you want to get serious, you need to use a VPN OR
For the really serious stuff you can use Tor Browser and access the Dark Web. Now this is a very dangerous place but its also a good tool because international dissidents also use Tor - I'm talking about dissidents in places like Russia, Iran, North Korea, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia where people actually have to be very cautious about their contact with the outside world.
Tor is probably the safest way as your web browsing is done through "onion links" (provided you don't use it for illegal stuff because then it can become a very dangerous place and you could go to jail). Every website, including Cyprus Forum is viewed not from its own URL but through an unidentifiable onion link and your IP Address is cloaked through multiple servers on the TOR Network.
There is also a lot of illegal activity and State Sponsored infiltrators are also working there trying to track illegal activity.
Also, it's a corner where even the most repressed populations on the planet have a haven. Which is what the internet should be about - giving the repressed a voice.
Now, this isn't for everyone and please keep your kids away. But using TOR isn't illegal in itself depending on how and why you are using it.
The only person who knew what they were talking about when it came to internet security was Get Real. He was on the right path. His only downfall was his inflexibility on using Google - which is the best browser for certain things like finding a great restaurant on Yelp or whatever.
Get Real was in a league of his own and was knowledgeable. He also had an ingenious way of blocking adds by manipulating the HOST File, which means you don't need to add an extension which is very good, but it didn't get rid of adds from social media and YouTube and he completely blocked Google which I hated. If he didn't block google completely and allowed just one extension which blocks adds on YouTube, then I would still use his browser. He never believed I could block all adds on YouTube which he couldn't do - but I can.
I don't rate Erolz. he is all over the place.
