Turkish proposal?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Turkish proposal?

Postby Sotos » Tue Jan 24, 2006 2:39 am

Abdullah Gul, Turkey’s foreign minister, said Ankara would publish “a detailed statement” on Cyprus on Tuesday. He did not give details but diplomats said it might include proposals to end trade embargoes and EU aid for the divided island and to revive a United Nations proposal for reunification.

This has seen the news recently. What do you think? From the comments above it seems like nothing new...

So what is the proposal exactly?

From what I hear the Turks are being very "compromising" again.

Here is what "compromise" means for the Turks: Give back only part of what they are obligated to give according to international law and agreements, and in return ask for huge and real compromises from our side that we are obviously not obligated to accept.

This case most probably just like this. They "compromise" to open their ports to us, when they obligated to open them, and in return they will ask for the de facto recognition of their illegal puppet state in Cyprus by the lifting of all embargoes.

Cyprus will never allow the recognition of the Turkish illegal pseudo state.

Beyond that if they want to open their ports and continue their EU accession process, or violate the agreement and end their EU accession process, it is their problem.

As you said its Turkeys problem, the EU knew full well the problems that existed between the "RoC" and Turkey prior to GC entry and Turkish aspirations, it will act accordingly to facilitate solving these problems. Your belief that the EU will force Turkey to accept your demands is a totally wrong viewpoint. In order to return to normalization of relations down a 2 way street the south will have to compromise as well other wise they to will have to take the consequences just like Turkey.

Turkey has full control of the situation they only need to earn some time.

No solution will be found and off course no reunification.

Turkey has no reason to leave Cyprus and the Europe will never force them to do anything if a solution through the UN can’t accomplished

They have much to earn for the next 20 years that will be staying here.

And I say 20 because the another 5 years of Papadopoulos who will be reelected and until a next plan to shows the impedimenta will rise up to limit.

Papadopoulos doesn’t want a solution and he is not a stupid boy he is a grow mad man.

Ezekias Papaionou said for him what he want no solution and if he ever ruled as, he will divide Cyprus that what he want.

And what he want it will be happen. The rest of the philosophical farting stuff is just to feeling good about our stupidity.

Anyone says the truth is automatically a traitor.

I can lough and cry for our situation.

Like what we have done back to those years from pure stupidity we did again.

Turkey was promoting their interest on the area because we have give them many excuses.

If we was in their place we shall do the same.

And we give them again the right and the excuse to manipulate the system and profit from.

Any good business man shall to the same.

That is all.

All is about many and authority.

And for as and for all.

We are no angels and i can say with much shame what our god (the western god) have the name dollar and lira even the masochist Giaxve and Alah is better.

My god have no name and he is everywhere and nowhere. He/She/it represents love unity peace and nothing more or less.

Agent Greeks (some of them) used to speak about the divine and call it thio, the Taoists say what it have no name or morph and they can only speak about the way. TAO means THE WAY no dogma no stupid and unreachable ideals but just a pure way of thinking.

Opening the Turkish ports for Cyprus is not our demand, it is a demand from EU that Turkey treats all its member states equally. If Turkey doesn't want to be an EU member then personally I couldn't care less about her ports. However if Turkey wants to enter the EU then she should start acting logically and understand that they can not enter the EU while they have embargoes and are illegally occupying a sovereign EU member state. Opening the ports is just the first step.

I am afraid you confuse EU with UK. Sorry, but EU is made by 25 states, including Greece and Cyprus and many other countries that do not like the violations of human rights and international law by Turkey.

What upsets me about me about all this is the fact that everyone seems to have immediately returned to their guns. I think it's important to take a look at exactly what Turkey is proposing and, just as importantly, the fact that Turkey has decided to make a proposal at all.

Recent history tells us time and time again how Turkey has refused to take the initiative and make progress on the Cyprus issue. There have been so many missed opportunities, and there is no denying it, but to say that one side is completely to blame is narrow-mindedness.

It is important, in my humble view, that we credit the fresh initiative. I'm saddened by fact that the Greek Cypriot foreign minister calls it "reheated food" (according to BBC), because even if they didn't agree with a single letter of the proposal, they could have at least welcomed the initiative. Surely the Greek Cypriots want peace as much as the Turks, don't they?

By dismissing the initiative, Mr Iacovu has simply said "we're not interested". All peace agreements have to begin somewhere; if the sides can't even agree to sit down around a table, it means someone doesn't want to talk.

So If we make a proposal of splitting Turkey into 2 between a Turkish and a Kurdish state, do you think Turkey will welcome the proposal? Why the hell should we welcome a proposal that we don't agree with a single letter?

All peace agreements have to begin somewhere

How about to begin by Turkey finally accepting that the solution of the Cyprus problem can not be the one that will violate the human and democratic rights of the Cypriot people?

Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos said on Tuesday that he did not see anything new in the latest proposal on Cyprus presented by Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.

"I don't see anything new. This is the proposal which I believe does not consist anything else but an effort by Turkey to avoid its obligations towards Cyprus and the EU," Papadopoulos said at Larnaca airport upon his return from a working visit to Russia.

Papadopoulos made the remarks after Gul presented U.N.Secretary General Kofi Annan a new plan on Cyprus problem, which allows opening Turkish ports, airports and airspace to Greek Cypriot ships and planes if Turkish Cypriot isolation is lifted."This is not the first time that Turkey asks for exchanges to do what she is obliged to do," he added.

The Cyprus government will surely look into all those included in the statement, said Papadopoulos, but he "does not think they consist any new position or can be considered as an initiative oras a new beginning."

One can only be Cynical about this proposal- "reheated food" is overstating its value.

Turkey is under pressure to get rid of the albatross around its neck which is Cyprus.

Any genuine solution would attempt to remedy the ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Turkey- anything else is just avoiding the main issue. The refugees must be allowed to return home that is it.

Turkey acts according to EU criteria and if she steps out of line the EU will warn her but in the case of the "RoC" which she does not recognize the approach is different and the EU realize this. You are kidding yourself when you believe the EU will just ignore Turkeys concerns, they will ask for compromise from both sides. Like it is Turkey right to say she will not open her ports to the "RoC" due there not being a comprehensive solution and accept the consequences it is your right to do nothing and wait for the EU to take action if they ever do and accept the consequences. But Turkey has exibited a willing to compromise and the EU UK USA have acknowledged this. The GCs appear to have rejected even considering such proposals, do you think this will help your cause? coupled with the Straw fiasco imo you guys are sinking deeper and deeper into the s--t. Your leaders need to adopt a more positive approach and acknowledge this widening of the door and try to extract something more like Maras or reducing the Turkish army. A leadership with a real vision towards reunification would have used this opening to take a step towards negotiating their concerns and issues. Just chanting human rights and democracy doesnt pay dividends and wont drop out of the sky into your laps you have to take steps towards your goals and imho i feel the GCs will again show everyone their true face of being the negative side and not genuinely wanting a solution.

I am afraid you confuse EU with UK. Sorry, but EU is made by 25 states, including Greece and Cyprus and many other countries that do not like the violations of human rights and international law by Turkey.

Sorry to have to wake you up from your dream but its 24 states and 1 really messed up divided country which is proving to be a nightmare for the EU. Please continue your approach as in time the patience of the EU will be eroded by your stubborness and you will be more and more isolated, your next trip wont be to Russia but Cuba for support.

Some people problem is what they still believe in the holy trinity.

Makarios Father
Papadopoulos Son Messiah
And Grivas the saint spirit.

The 3 mad mans who destroyed Cyprus are the stupidest religion exists.
