Sounds like communism to me. And now they want a European army. We had a strong Cyprus pound now we are part of a rotten sinking ship. Cyprus was better off as a sovereign country. That’s why I joined the BREXIT party to ensure that if we don’t get Brexit done by 31st October, we will in the next general ellection ensure the Brexit party keeps the conservative under pressure to carry out the will of the people.
Actually the EU is MORE democratic than the member States. ALL commissioners (which is the equivalent of Ministers) are elected MEPs directly from the people and all their decisions pass through the EU parliament for approval. The decisions are not the commissioner's decisions per se, but of a whole team of experts, just like every Ministry of a Country. Do you have any elected Minister in the UK, do we have any elected Minister in Cyprus??
Does the EU propose any laws that are unrelated to the Customs Union and the Single Market? even the Euro is part of that.
Does the EU impose how many years should someone spend in prison, for theft, robbery, rape, economic crimes, beating his wife and children, etc etc etc?
No, the EU is anything but communism. Even the proposed EU army is a good thing to protect the weak countries of the Union. Imagine Turkey invading again and grabbing all Cyprus. Or starting a war against Greece. What's going to happen to the Euro, to the European economy, to Cyprus' or Greece's debt. Yep I am 100% in favor of a European army which will certainly consist of local Armies from ALL member states.
As for the fallacy that the Cyprus Pound was a strong currency, perhaps you should learn that it was so because it was linked to STG, the US$, and the Deutch Mark which later became the Euro, It looked stable externally, but internally it's purchasing value was fluctuating according to the fluctuation of the few currencies it was linked to.
