if you break the rules of chess unintentionally, you are not really playing chess are you? you are in fact playing a bastardised form of chess.
here is an interesting story about chess.
a king in india wanted a new game invented that clever people could play. he promised to reward the inventor of such a game with anything they desired. a lot of pibol invented a lot of games to see which one the king would like. and low and behold the king selected chess as the winner. the king turned to the inventor to see what he wished for and he was surprised at the request. the inventor simply asked to put a single grain of rice on the first square of the chess board and to double the amount for each square there on. the king was taken by surprise. he could not understand what he did not ask for gold or silver till one of his advisors explained to him that if he gave the inventor what he asked for, there would not be enough rice on earth to fill all the boxes on the chessboard.
the king got very angry with the fellow for trying to be too clever and had his head chopped off.
have you any idea how much grain would be needed to fill the chess board with rice?
