All I know is you are very good in farting braveness when you are sure it would cost you nothing.

Btw I was not in a backwards state like Saudi Arabia. I was at an ex -British colony Arab state with very similar mentality to Cyprus, and very sympathetic to us Cypriots because of the invasion.

personally, I would have accepted I broke their law, apologized for being a dickhead and I would have paid the fine.

You are an idiot for doing stupid things in such a country.

I mean honestly, where do you think are are? The USA or something where you can argue discrimination. Foolish man!

You were literally asking for it in a Muslim Country. You are lucky you fell on a good guy because had you not, you are the one that would get fucked up.

In all honesty, you antagonized people in authority in a Muslim Country. You are lucky you were in UAE and not in Saudi Arabia.

Paying a small fine is nothing compared to the potential alternatives.

And laughing at them whilst they are in prayer is not something I would do even in UAE.

Firstly you should learn to distinguish between light talk and serious talk.
i left behind details to make it light but you were not smart enough to figure out the details I left behind.
You are making a fool of yourself with all this rhetoric and patronizing.
And you are not in a position to tell me what would happen to me because you did not live there to know.
The worst case scenario would be to pay double the fine, but I fought my case and won. I also wanted to learn about their courts.

I was not in the Emirates, the Emirates were not the best place at the time.

The Emirates were not the best place.

i reckon they are the pick of them actually.

But I still wouldn't have a laugh at their religion or try to be clever. the guy was explicit to tell you that you were being recalcitrant in a Muslim Country with Sharia.

Sorry but I'm always super careful in these kinds of countries. I remember one time my little son was spotted carrying a water bottle and had a sip out of it when one Taxi driver came running my way and aid Sir Sir, please please do not let your son hold his water bottle like this during Ramadan. You can get into trouble. If you need a drink please hide in the toilets.

I quickly apologized to the Gentlemen and thanked him.

You probably would have told him you are not Muslim and can do what you want.

You are also making a fool of yourself by dragging everybody to endless discussions...

Nevertheless just to give you a bit of more information regarding the difference of the place compared to other backward places.

It's true that during Ramadan the Arabs should presumably not drink or eat anything during the day and the foreigners should presumably not do it in any way that could be considered provocative. However after sunset they could eat and drink all they wanted.
I can tell you this: Some of the rich and faithful Muslims were actually doing it, by sleeping all day! Some were just locked at home so that nobody could see them.

How about the working class?
I was working at a place with about 4000 people working in shifts. About 1/3rd were Arabs. Yes at that place EVERYBODY was required to work. No work, no pay, no money. (In S.Arabia nobody is required to work, so most stay home and get a salary from the state.)

Now you tell me how is it possible for any working person at 45 degrees heat and 90% humidity not drink anything during the day and survive?
In reality no one followed the rules not even the Arabs. Some of them were eating and drinking publicly at work some were organizing parties in the toilets, some were sleeping all day under the stairs.

However everybody was careful in case of police presence.

Some more facts:
1)One of the Sheiks sons died from heroine overdose. In an Arab Country at a time heroine in Cyprus was a fairy tail!!
2)Alcohol was legal. The best selling beer was KEO, and you could buy as many as you wanted from the supermarket
3)A few years before I was there they had legally operating whorehouses. They were forced by S.Arabia to close them down.
4)The modern high class form of prostitution for the Sheikhs were the Air-Stewardesses, especially the British.

Interesting, no?

Personally I would like to see our schools become fully secular and to brake away from anything related to religion. That said a girl in a headscarf is the least of our problems. If we were to deal with all other issues and end the influence that our Church has on education, then I would say that yes, there is a specific uniform and everybody has to wear that uniform. Otherwise there is no point in uniform since anybody can make up a religion and say that what he choose to wear is mandated by his religion.
