I actually find them wonderful and I find many aspects of their culture to be quite wonderful. They are very nice people.

I wouldn't laugh at them at prayer though or laugh at their culture. they will bend over backwards to offer you every hospitality, and the least you can do is respect them.

What court, it was just an Imam, no lawyers no anything. He told me "listen son, here we have laws
according to the Koran. Why you didn't pay your parking fine?"
I told him because there were 30 more vehicles parked illegally and the policeman
only fined me because I was a foreigner.
He said OK son, the Koran teaches us to be fair to ALL, you may go.

You can't just do what you want there like you can in Cyprus. They are right, they have strict laws according to the Koran and have Sharia. Offending them is not a smart idea sunshine. The guy was being very polite to you asking you this basic question in a polite way because they were probably thinking you were not all there and they were probably wondering why you were not compliant with their basic laws and wondering whether you would disobey other more serious laws. They were giving you advice for your own good because it's NOT Cyprus there.

Honestly, you are risking being the subject matter of the next Banged up Abroad episode where stupid Westerners end up in Middle Eastern prisons and get lashed out of utter stupidity.
