in that case it's quite logical to have an interim period from 2-10 years of zero or lower tariffs (as is the case of every country that applies to join the EU.
What makes you think the EU will even want to establish a free trade area with Britain after it leaves ??
No way mate.. sorry.
They DO want to join the Free Trade. Both Britain and the EU are determined to have a Free Trade Deal.
That has NEVER been an issue at all and the EU have already offered that up. The only sticking point is the Irish Border. The EU are using this to scuttle the process.
Britain and the EU will definitely have a Free Trade deal like Norway, Switzerland, and Canada and like the one Australia and the USA are working towards and in the meantime it is likely they will trade under Article 24 WTO standards until this agreement is penned. That of course is subject to EU approval which is a foregone conclusion because the won't risk a down turn or reduction in trade either.
I believe that Australia and USA are already trading under Article 24 meaning that they are well on the way to a complete Free Trade Deal with the EU.
I know the Australian Government mentioned it and it also mentioned they have already begun negotiations with the UK in order to get a FTD with the UK since it is leaving the EU and will not be covered by the Australian/EU FTD.
So everything is already underway in the background.
It is disingenuous to say there will be chaos after BREXIT.
