USA has about 5,000 of them and Russia about the same. What has been the use having them other than just having them? If anyone should have them that would make sense, it is the small countries like Cyprus against neighbourhood bullies. That is why Israel has them. Australia should put it’s money into something else that would be more beneficial for the country and it’s citizens.
Yes agreed. Australia can’t be taken over easily. It’s too big.
But we can be attacked and we are vulnerable to attack and there is potential for a foreign power to take over a small part like let’s say Darwin. Where they go from there is probable a highway to hell as the Australian and US military will just try to lull them inland or smash them with constant Air Strikes.
The Australians have what they call the Brisbane Line in case of invasion.
It’s evident to me that Australia is playing a bigger role in the region with Japan and Singapore. Because of that, we can be pushed around by China and Russia flexing their muscle so we need to have the nukes in case these rogues get any stupid ideas.
We just need to be able to turn around to these bastards and tell them that if they destroy us, we will ensure your mutual destruction and obliteration as well.
So don’t mess with us.
your stupidity is beyond belief. you have:
8.75 warplanes
12.25 tanks
60.25 soldiers
you is just one fearsome military to be reckoned with. no wonder you oblitirated the native australians.
It's not the number of soldiers. I think Australia already knows it doesn't have the population which is why it invests in equipment and other technologies which allow it to project power on the other side of the world. it's not going to fight a war of attrition.
That is why we invest in Drones, Aircraft Carriers and Landing Ships, Destroyers, Submarines, Poseidon's and AEW aircraft.
We do not require Tanks. Our Army is more mobile and mechanized to move fast into position, attack, then retreat. Our Defence Policy and posture is formulated for our huge continent and our conditions. So Tanks are no good to us. Special Forces, Ships, Submarines, Aircraft carriers, AEW Aircraft, Fighters, Bombers, Drones, Transport and Logistics, Cruise Missiles and yes, ICBM is exactly what Australia needs. And this is where our money goes to. If someone invades Australia with Tanks, their life expectancy should be about 10 minutes before some American A-10 tank buster comes along.
It's also another reason why it invests heavily into its alliance with the USA.
Right now, the USA is Australia's very big brother and they have 50,000 Troops here as well. Right now, they got enough firepower to turn all of Asia to glass in Australia. It really is jaw dropping. I had another look at the USS Ronald Reagan. It has been joined by more USS Naval Ships and the HMAS Canberra has also arrived which is another Aircraft Carrier. USS Ronald Reagan makes the HMAS Canberra look small and that isn't a small ship at all.
More military planes are being positioned and there are some submarines as well.
They are waiting for the Chinese and then I think they are gonna go and have some fun with them. I just don't know how the Chinese are going to be able to have their exercise because it looks like the USA and Australia and going to fuck with them big time and interfere with their activities.
But having said that, no I don't believe nukes is a dumb idea. I think it is only logical way. yes we know all the arguments against including the arms race argument, but what we are seeing is an increasingly volatile situation with both Russia and China and they literally can't be trusted. So whilst Indonesia may also procure a Nuclear capability, Australia will need to face up to the reality that as the years go by, the USA may not be in a position to support us and as a result, Australia needs to develop its own Nuclear Capability as a deterrence alone. It's just to send a clear message to both the Chinese and Russians, not that we ever intend on using them.
Australia has vital trade routes to keep open and whilst we trade with China, we can not trust them. Russia and China are still totalitarian regimes.
What Russia and China are doing to Australia is forcing Australia's hand anyway so Japan and Australia do require to rethink their policies. Japan must now change their Constitution as well. We are in this together. Whilst China will definitely big a big player, this isn't the country we can rely on in principle. There will always be an element of mistrust.
Plus there are other players now like North Korea and Iran, and because Australia is so isolated and in the Asia Pacific region, we have to evolve and change our policy. Australia is actually trying to get the French Military in Australia too, and house their Nuclear Submarines and hedging their bets.
was it not mostly the australian unite thatwere in far east when 300,000 soldiers surrendered to 30,000 japs?
and while we are at it was it not your mob that were hinding under their beds in 74 in cyprus?
lets face it, you boys are ok fighting natives that are armed with spears and knives but you did get your come-upance when you ventured into terggy right. the terrgs gave you a right walloping up your wallabies
