In 97/98 the Turks threatened to invade if the ROC actually deployed the S300s. I was in a place here then where those were important events and I got the impression they meant it.

Who in the ROC would argue with that sentiment? When does protection become something more though? What if you acquired missiles capable of hitting Antalia/Mersin? Because, from an aircraft targeting point of view, that’s not too far short of what the S400 represents.
