AFAIK there’s presently been no serious allegation of Russian involvement in this incident. At the moment they appear simply to not know who dun it (the Butler?
)
However, using common sense (it’s OK, this isn’t Skripal/Litivenko, so you can try it). It looks most likely to have been an inter-departmental U.K. thing.
The mails were passed to a well known pro-Brexiteer journalist at The Mail on Sunday. What’s been published so far are extracts separated by 2 years. So, people are waiting with baited breathe for this week’s issue and any further tidbits. Read all about it!
It’s a characteristic of those on the left (which you tend to be when not enthusiastically supporting dictators various on the far right
) that they pour scorn and ridicule on things which impeach upon their agendas. You tend to do that whenever the subject of malicious Russian cyber activities surfaces. You act, despite the evidence of a significant Russian investment in the field, as though they would never stoop so low. Much maligned innocents (as of course they always are).
Putin clearly wants to sow disaffection among his rivals/potential enemies. Which national leader doesn’t? Creating disarray amongst nations in the West. Doing anything to facilitate a break up of the EU is very much a Russian foreign policy objective. Ipso facto, he’s keenly in favour of Brexit, which of course is why you are.
Should GCHQ get involved in this investigation - and the finger point - I’m sure we’ll be hearing more from your good self. Straight out of the I.R.A in St Petersburgh of course.
