We can appoint whomever we wish. Although, every country has the right to reject Ambassadorial appointees.

Whatever your views on the Darroch incident there’s clearly no point in having somebody as your Ambassador if the country in question says they’ll have nothing more to do with him. Given the revelations about his comments I’m not really surprised. It’s even more the case if the country in question is your biggest ally and you’re in the process of Brexit (or not ). Darroch understood his position was untenable and resigned.

Trump won’t mince his words. It’s actually refreshing to see a POTUS that says what he means straight down the line. We have never before seen such honesty. Yeah because when he was appointed it was know that he would give his honest assessment in private, as his job demands he do, and that they would include things that were not flattering to Trump and then these things would be leaked to the press by parties unknown with agendas unknown. Plonker ! Until these private communications had been leaked no one in the US from Trump downwards had expressed any concerns or issues with the ambassador at ll. In fact there is copious praise and even after the leak there as Republican senators praising the man and the work he done to the benefit of both the UK and the US.

As to appointing Fararge to that role, this would be the stupidest thing possible because the first person to suggest such was Trump. Appointing him would be saying that the USA should chose the UK ambassador to the US and not the UK government. Very 'standing tall in the post brexit world' - not.
