Breaking News:

TotalEnergies announces significant offshore gas discovery in Block 6

I don’t know how far this new quantity will go to save Europe, but I do recall reading that prior to this find, the combined Cypro-Israeli hydrocarbons would just about cover 10% of the EU’s needs... and hence why nobody takes the East-med pipeline project too seriously!

“This is a historic achievement that will strengthen Israel’s security, inject billions into Israel’s economy, and ensure the stability of our northern border,” Lapid said in a statement.

In Lebanon, President Michel Aoun said the terms of the final U.S. proposal were satisfactory and he hoped the deal would be announced as soon as possible.

The agreement is meant to resolve a territorial dispute in the eastern Mediterranean sea in an area where Lebanon aims to explore for natural gas. Israel is already producing natural gas at fields nearby.

It sets a border between Lebanese and Israeli waters for the first time and also establishes a mechanism for both countries to get royalties from an offshore gas field that straddles the boundary.

The Republic of Cyprus is considering receiving natural gas from Israel via a pipeline.

Cypriot Energy Minister Natasa Pilides told The Associated Press that they are considering licensing requests from the London-based Energean on the matter. Israel needs to decide how much gas they would export in such an arrangement, according to the AP.

Energean is one of several companies that operates in Israel’s offshore natural gas fields in the eastern Mediterranean.

"Cronos-2" is the fourth discovery in block 6, following "Zeus" with an estimated quantity of 2-3 trillion cubic feet, "Cronos-1" with an estimated quantity of 2.5 tfc and "Calypso", which ENI described as a “promising discovery” confirming the extension of “Zhor-like play” in the Cypriot EEZ.
