Assange jumped bail (a criminal offence) to avoid being sent to Sweden on a European Arrest Warrant, in order to answer charges of sexual assault and rape. An EAW doesn't have options, it has to be complied with by any other EU member. I believe Sweden's looking into reactivating the case at the moment.
AFAIK Sweden doesn't extradite on charges of political crimes, like espionage. The government there wouldn't meet Assange's condition that he would not be extradited to the US though because that decision is in the remit of Sweden's independent judiciary. Any request for extradition would have required that all participants to the EAW agree. Now of course that will be purely up to the UK. Foot - shot in?
Assange was actively trying to get Swedish residency up until the moment he was being investigated for rape and sexual assault there; he then promptly fled to the UK. So, suddenly being in Sweden wasn't safe, but being in the UK (as we all know the best friend of the USA in the whole world) somehow was?
The Ecuadorians' account of Assange's behaviour whilst resident in their London Embassy and the reason for his eviction fits in with other stuff I've read about the man in the past. Including from ex-employees/Wickileaks colleagues and (now ex) friends. Basically he's a narcissistic prat. Totally up his own arse.
References to Williams/Putin are straw man and have absolutely nothing to do with the subject.
Look on the bright side though. Assange's prison cell will probably be larger and more comfortable than the cupboard he's occupied in the Ecuadorian embassy for the past 7 years.
I think K's confused. Surely, it's the GRU which specialises in poisoning "traitors"?
