"I am only selling the building...not the land"

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

"I am only selling the building...not the land"

Postby Agios Amvrosios » Thu Jan 19, 2006 2:40 am

I recently went to Agios Amvrosios with my uncle and we were approached by a Turkish Cypriot real estate agent trying to flog off my grandfather's property back to my uncle. My uncle and I are pretty light skinned and fair for cypriots so he must have thought we were another nationality.

My uncle replied to him in Greek "this IS my property".

The estate agent then starts sweating and says in perfect Greek" I am only selling the building... not the land" .

We did not know what that meant and we didn't ask either.

ha! sounds like you guys really put the s***s on this guy!

Fair play though, i can see why you want the house and land back, but as it is sitting on conquered territory, a little hard to actually achieve this and have any chance of living in it.

even if you did get your old place back, how would you go about living in it and driving to work in the south??

youd have to pay a tenner a day there and back, thats 20 quid in tolls a day! Jeez thats a days wage alone!

Agios Amvrosios, I believe it is good that this person was ashamed for what he is doing. At least they know that what they do is not fair.

Hi Agios Amvrosios,

> I am only selling the building... not the land

Basically, the land land belongs to your uncle, but the building does not.

I'm very surprised that estate agents are coming into the Republic and trying to sell Greek Cypriot property - they must be mad.

PS Agios Amvrosios is about 10 minutes away - they've got a very good taverna!

Basically they can not build on land that it does not belongs to them. They should demolish the building, pay his uncle rent for the use of his property, and serve in jail for their illegal action.

I couldn't agree more - and this is what will hopefully happen to the Orams.
