I suppose a visit before moving would be sensible but i've not been accused of being sensible before. I'm just gonna dive right in and deal with the consequences as I meet them. I want to live some, i'm fed up to the back teeth of England and the attitudes of the people who live here. I guess there will be racism of one sort or another wherever I go, I just don't want to be made to make a choice between one people or another.

Hmm interesting comment - make a choice between one people or the other?

I've been here almost a year and a half and while I have Cypriot friends, I will always be English and its assumed birds of a feather and all that? There are places here that are like posh council estates, full of English people but each to their own choices I suppose. If it suits them then all well and good.

I wont lie and say its easy but if a laid back lifestyle and to experience a different part of the world is what you seek then maybe you'll do just fine.
I apologise if I sound a little negative, its not my intention, just hoping I come across as realistic.
Again, good luck. :D

It is my hope that i can be assimulated in some small way into the Greek Cypriot culture. I don't want to be a Brit abroad with my Cornflakes,Sun Newspaper and Eatenders. I will 'try' to learn the lingo, though how succesful that will be i don't know. Maybe there will be some easy access classes I can take. And i don't find your comments negative, realistic maybe. I'll live and learn i spose.

If you approach it from a "whats the worst that can happen" point of view it may help. My attitude is that if it all goes *its up here then I go back where I came from - not the worst thing in the world to happen but Id rather give something a go than regret the things I didnt do.

My feelings exactly. I've had far too many 'what if' and 'I wish i had' moments allready in my life. Regret is a bitter pill to swallow. So i'm gonna give it a go. Like you said bacardi, what's the worst that could happen. And PS...I really don't need to be told what the worst is, ta very much.

Sorry, thats my little view as the worst thing for me is to go back so thats my motivation.
You never know, I may decide to go somewhere completely different!

We can never go back. Change direction yes, but not go back.

Wise words Vex. I'll have to construct a plan B on the off chance I may need it.

Growing up isn't so bad - its the growing old I dont fancy :?

You certainly don't want to grow old in England. We treat our pensioners worse than our pets. Yet one more reason to abandon this sinking ship.

dms007 wrote:svetlana, why do you edit posts or delete them if they have any negative references to russians?

i have noted this for sometime, because i do not find posts which have reference to other nationalities in the same way being edited by you.

i think you you first edit yourself of such attitude before you edit the posts.

I have seen the original post and even though the poster might have had good intentions, his wording was not appropriate.
Therefore I think what Lana did was completely justified.
