He? The General, is by far the most incosistent forum member ever. He has made so many incosistent comments, not least the one on "Syrian War " where he stated that sometimes its better to have dictatorships blah blah, only to change his mind, not forgetting calling Trump an idiot Now his idol. !! Never once has this moron been right on anything. He states now that Cyprus is a shithole, this after he told us that this forum, a Cyprus forum, survives because of ...him.
You can be critical of some aspects surrounding Cyprus, as indeed I do, but you can not call Cyprus a shithole. It is by far one of the best nations on earth, for me it is the best and the safest.

Milti, with all due respect, but I have come to realise that the only thing that Cyprus can offer anyone is Sun, Sand, Sea, Sex and Souvlakia.

Otherwise the corrupt and thieving political, legal and banking system are corrupt as fuck.

If you are not in the elite circles you are buggered.

Just look at all the recently released lists of the politicians and the elite that have had their loans cancelled, whilst the average poorer Cypriot is struggling to even make ends meet.

They make me sick to the stomach, and any said beauty of the place is quickly shot down.

This god forsaken country needs a coup to take out the dinosaurs and replace with new blood, but alas!

I made a conscious decision on coming back to Cyprus that I shall never involve my self either with politics , banks, the legal system where possible but enjoy the natural beauty of my birth country, ignoring stuck up Μικροαστούς, and generally just be my self, what you see is what you get.
As Stratos Dyonisiou in a song said, εγώ είμαι και το σαλονιού εγώ είμαι και του λιμανιού. I take people as they come, rich, not so rich or poor. I dont care about pretentious people, I talk to them in the same manner I talk to a dustman. I think I may have mentioned my arrival at a " posh" relative's house last July for a Sunday BBQ.
After fishing , I showered, put on a fresh pair of shorts and T.shirt only to arrive and find quests in suits and ties by the swimming pool. I apologised for my ...inappropriate apparel , it was around 38c at the time, left and never went back. Little pretentious peasants I have met many times.
Have been in Cyprus for almost 2 years now, have made numerous friends, they all know my character quite well. They also know that when I drop a ....fish I swear both in Cypriot and English, at times also in ...Russian.
Oh boy do I love this island or what !!!

They are corrupt as fuck EVERYWHERE in the world. However when the ordinary people are doing ok, they just can't see it.
It takes a major catastrophe for the corruption to reveal itself, through the process of one crook of the system nailing the other in revenge for their losses.

Major catastrophe like mari, laiki, coop, CA, you mean like these??

When a country’s Supreme Court judges have no integrity, the assistant Attorney General is in jail, you have got to ask wtf is going on. Anyone trying to defend such corruption by saying oh it happens everywhere is as deluded as fuck.

Mari did not reveal any level of corruption, the Banking collapse did though.
And if you are so deluded to think it only happens in Cyprus here's an endless list of US politicians, judges, etc sentenced to jail.
Imagine what would happen over there when they would face a major catastrophe themselves....

Did you know what happened to Kathleen Kane the Attorney General of Pennsylvania??

btw show me where I defended this corruption!

And the process is always the same:
Collapse of our Banking system--->Ex CEO/Managers of BOC brought to court and convicted-->appealed to the Supreme Court and declared innocent-->the law office in Limassol accused (and also provided evidence?) the Supreme Court judges of corruption/connections-->CRECO from the EU came here and put them all under surveillance imposing rules that would turn every judge accountable/ prosecutable for his decisions.

We will see what happens with the hundreds accused for the collapse of Co-op...

You need to be a bit more open minded because you have a jaded mind. The USA is a welcoming country that has opened its arms to the world. They are an open and transparent democracy where basically anything goes as long as you don't harm other people. Jurisdictions vary from State to State.

I do come to Cyprus and frankly if you want a BULLSHIT country, its Cyprus and you do have a lot of crime there and a lot of narcotics all because of the stupid foreigners you bring in from Eastern Europe. The USA has very heavy screening and vetting process and half the people in Cyprus would not be allowed in the USA. You virtually have to be a clean skin.

ou also, in terms of population have more crime in Cyprus that the US. In the US, there is less likely you will get away with crime as well. But its only natural, that in places like the Greater New York, Jersey and Philadelphia where 22 million people live, that there will be some crime activity. Lots of people = more crime, bt do they have more crime than Cyprus does. I ask this question all the time. In fact I also ask whether they have more crime than Sydney or Melbourne and I can't help to think that they do NOT. In fact I feel very safe there, whether you are on the subway or walking though Astoria or Queens. And the police are everywhere to and very nice and helpful.

And yes there are rules everywhere. But in Cyprus the rules only apply to idiots like you. They don't apply to the elites. And they are hardly ever enforced so you can do what you want.

No your cities are NOT as beautiful as other European Cities. Sorry to burst that bubble but your cities are terrible, dirty and very ugly. USA cities are far nicer and in my opinion a lot more livable too.

You don't have nature strips. You have potholes. You can't ride your bike safely without risk of breaking your neck. Imagine if that were the case in America. You planning is virtually non existent.

Look, you sit there living in Cyprus throwing mud against the USA. But its like someone from Syria saying they are better than New Zealand. Let's be realistic here. The USA has thousands of Cypriot migrants that will never move to Cyprus. Why would they when their kids can go to Harvard or Columbia? At a price of course, but the money is worth it to set your children up for life.

In Cyprus you have this mentality where Cyprus is the center of the universe.

The real Center of the Universe is however NEW YORK! And that isn't made up. It is for real.

Hi there Miltiades,

I am originally from Yeroskipou. However, I was born in Australia but I feel very attached to Cyprus. Every time I visit Cyprus, my spirit feels like it has arrived home.

--------------------------------------------------------------------'-------------

So Paphitis what has brought about this complete turnaround in the last 11 years??

Cyprus isn't my cup to tea. Not to live there that's for sure, not even in retirement. The backwardness will do my head in.

That's right B25. If ANY of these things happened in the USA, there would be inquests by the lawyers going on for decades.

I don't need to read links to know there are freak mass shootings in the USA. Yes there are Gun issues. And in Cyprus there is more chance of getting killed by incompetent Government stupidity (such as Mari). Trump has grounded the entire US B737 Maxi fleet, which is one of the largest and most powerful companies in the world. Can a Cyprus President do that? In your wet dreams. Christofias didn't even have the balls to reign the Banks in even though he knew very well Cyprus was headed for a train wreck disaster, he still chose to bury his head like a spineless coward and now the austerity is twice as bad. You are a Banana Republic. Don't even put yourselves in the same category as the USA and don't start throwing stones because you guys in Cyprus are not even in the ballpark with with US. The USA is forward thinking. They are risk takers. They have made contributions to humanity that are unparalleled by anyone let alone a piss farty little Banana Republic like Cyprus. Of course Cyprus is small and the US is big. but there are lots of small countries in the world like Luxembourg, Monaco, Malta, etc which really do punch well for their weight.

But my statements are about general crime. When in the USA you still do not have the feeling that someone will come out with a gun and start shooting randomly at you even though it can happen. There is more chance of getting hit by a bus.

I am talking about more general crime, such as muggings, assaults, getting robbed, car theft, burglary, or being attacked. There is nothing unusual about the USA and BIG places like New York. In fact I feel it is safer these days in New York and LA than it is in Sydney and Melbourne or a Western European German or French City or even London.

In Cyprus case, you are comparing a city of 22 million people to Cyprus (under 1 million). I put it to you that Cyprus has more crime than New York as well. Much more crime.

Here is a link that tells you that US Cities are far more livable than Limassol (ranked 86). A fact I agree with wholeheartedly. I would rather live in New York than live in Limassol. My wife is actually a New Yorker herself practically as she lived there for 4 years. New York is where I met her in 2004 when I was briefly in Canada and visited New York. Speaking of which, Canada is an amazing country.

https://mobilityexchange.mercer.com/Ins ... g-rankings

My wife completely loves New York and wants to go back. We have visited New York 6 times since and have even looked at buying some Condos there to rent and just have in case we ever go there or for the children because its an amazing place. We have a relative to manage these for us as well.

It helps because her cousin and good friend are both (one is a Cypriot and the other is from Peloponnisos) Estate Agents for the same Agency so we get emails about properties they are selling in Manhattan, Astoria, Whitestone, Queens etc. Her cousin's family owns half of Makarios Avenue as well, so a very wealthy family. But doesn't want to go Cyprus either and she was born and grew up there. She is now a New Yorker and will die a New Yorker. Center of the Universe! These people and my wife love it. Although it is a little too big for me, I still like it though. It has this affect on you, like nothing else. New York is a cult religion.

Seriously Pyro. You are way out of your league. The USA is fine. It has lovely cities like Boston (home of harvard), Philadelphia, Washington, New Jersey which I am so sorry to say, shit all over Cyprus 24/7.
