Data protection

Postby Seaton 2 » Mon Jan 21, 2019 10:30 am

Just had a very odd reply to an email from am estate agent. Although he's happy to show us one of the properties on his books he cannot give us the specific location of it "Due to GDPR"

Is one of us losing the plot or does Cyprus have its own quirks on this topic ?

If he transmitted his clients personal data to you, such as their address by email, would he be in violation of the regulation?

Would you chance emailing your clients personal information to any random email you received because they said they were interested in it, knowing that the potential penalty is a hefty fine?

I am not an estate agent.

Expect lots of bullshit from Estate Agents. The reason he doesn't give you the exact location is because then you can go and see the property yourself without him, maybe there is even a "for sale" sign with the phone number of the owner there, and then he will lose his 5% commission.

I dont think this is the case,

A simple call to the owner to inform him that he is sending someone round would suffice. Along with permission to forward the address.

Having said that, I do also think this is their way of filtering out the time wasters.

If you really were interested, you would go with the agent to view it. That is generally how it is done if you want to view properties on their book..

The agent is right and doing their job..
