north Cyprus property sales

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Continue to deny this reality if you like and continue to insist that the events of 74 were merely about TC stealing from GC if you like - but do so in the understanding that you perpetuate and prolong division by doing so.

I agree with you that Turkish intervention did not happen just because TCs wanted to steal from GCs. There was a coup whose aim was Enosis (I don't care if someone says otherwise) Turkey had every right to intervene and most TCs chose to migrate to the north for a better life.

But at the same time, I cannot ignore the incidents followed after the Turkish intervention. For example, it's hard for me to explain to a GC why the names of the villages in the north were all changed to Turkish names, or why the churches were looted, or why so many settlers were brought to the island to occupy GC houses, and so on, if the aim was not "stealing". Maybe the intention was not stealing from GCs, but the intention was not mere intervention and restoration of the constitution either.

When you ask GCs to understand that 1974 did not happen just because TCs wanted to steal from GCs, you should also try to understand why GCs might feel that way considering what happenned after 1974.

Just one of the many foreign owned property estate agency and property development companies, based in Britain and owned by a Briton.

I wonder where he is stashing all his millions and I wonder how many TC's are benefiting from this.

Hi people,

I think the problem here is that everyone is looking at it with there own biased views but if we look at the property issue from a logical view is these properties do belong to those with the relevant R.O.C deeds not the TRNC ones being issued and to appreciate each others view lets look at it from their side and then we start to achieve something like respect for one another when we learn to respect each other then the property issue will resolve itself through agreement at the moment our biggest problem is not the property issue but those that strive to keep us divided like POPPADOPOULOUS AND DENKTASH JUNIOR.

and there are no property companies in the south operated by non cypriots? Do you wonder where they stash their millions? Do you wonder how many GC benefit from their actions?

Ian Smith has been resident in Cyprus for 20 years. His business has been running for 20 years. He pays personal income tax in the TRNC and corporation tax in the TRNC. He employs TC and others in the TRNC.

If your issue is non cypriots running businesses in Cyprus and property companies in Cyprus then the issues apply to both the North and the South. If you issue however is the selling of disputed properties to foreigners - making it harder for former GC owners to reclaim their properties in the future then it is an issue in the North only.

My problem is that I suspect your issue is with the later yet you claim to be concerned about TC etc and this I just find doubtful. I would have more respect for your position if it was either more consistent (ie recognising that foreign owned businesses and the sale of land to non cypriots is a pan cypriot issue and not just one that relates to the North alone) or if you were more honest in your true concerns.

Sorry

Erol,

I am afraid that what I think and what you think I think are two different things. I never really believed in people that think they can mind read.

Recent newspaper and t.v news talk about g/c that are actively involved in the property boom and some g/c are selling there hotels to buy in the north, now lets look at this properly no one is better than the other at the end of the day whatever your race, religion etc. for some people money is there GOD but we should not judge the whole community on the actions of the few.
