You are actually overgeneneralizing.
You make it look as if the whole Apple company shifted their factory from the US to China.
That’s not even close to reality.
Nearly 100% of all the American hi-tec is designed and developed in the US itself.
What is done in China, India, etc is the testing and assembly of parts manufactred either in the US or other hi tec countries like Korea, Japan, Europe etc. Some hi tec parts are also made in China from totally independent factories. Yes don’t underestimate the Chinese they do have their own hi tec factories as well.
The Chinese even started making extremely hitec mobile phones, that almost wiped off the Samsungs from the market (don’t know how they affected the Iphones though). My wife just bought the Huwaei P20 Lite, the damn thing has an 8-core processor, 73GB storage, and it looks faster than a desktop computer in roaming the net or opening files.

Let’s take another 2 examples of hi-tec products
a)Computer Memory: did you know that there are only 3 true RAM (memory) manufacturers in the whole world and all 3 are actually manufacturing in the US? The remaining 100s all over the world are in reality assemblers of memory modules who stick their brand name on.
b)Computer processors. I think there are 4, the major ones being Intel and AMD.
75% of everything including design/reasearch/development AND manufacturing of Intel is actually made in the US.

Just like this article says:

The question is NOT should we, but CAN we get our manufacturing jobs back?

Digital component inventors/designers such as Intel hold PATENTS of what they’ve invented/designed such as the Intel family of processors, but they are usually manufactured under license in China or Malaysia to take advantage of cheaper labour.

So what counts are the patents and the blueprints which entitle the inventor to royalties but manufacturing can take place in any country that has the facilities and license and there are many these days... Singapore being another.

Says who? You??
Manufacturing and assembling are 2 different things

Approximately 75% of Intel's semiconductor fabrication is performed in the USA

The problem is you don’t seem to understand what “semiconductor fabrication” means… it refers to “wafers”.

So Germany may for example supply the silicone it processed from other raw materials, Russia some other mineral, and the US builds wafers and anything else needed, while yet another country may create other bits (ie: thermal issues, processor housing, copper, etc) that are needed.

The factory in Malaysia takes all the bits and marries them to form the processor. All the work involved is complex and high tech from beginning to end.

But the most important part is that the BLUEPRINT of each processor belongs to Intel or AMD or whoever invented it for life.

A processor blueprint is like a massive map of silicone GATES (tiny transistors basically) which when coupled in a vast variety of formations, allow digital logic.

These things are covered; albeit in more detail, if you study electronic engineering or a similar science.

I actually saw the blueprint of the Intel 80486 (a now archaic processor) and was blown away by the many pages of the schematic… they use special MASSIVE projectors to observe such large and complex diagrams. I absolutely loved it but there was no processor design in Australia at the time, so I couldn’t take it any further and settled for whatever was available. :)

The idea of designing ICs was at the time a dream for me... but it wasn’t achievable without moving country, etc. :?

No! Semiconductor fabrication is not the manufacturing of wafers per se. That's only the first step.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semicondu ... abrication
It is a multiple-step sequence of photolithographic and chemical processing steps during which electronic circuits are gradually created on a wafer made of pure semiconducting material. Silicon is almost always used, but various compound semiconductors are used for specialized applications.

The entire manufacturing process, from start to packaged chips ready for shipment, takes six to eight weeks and is performed in highly specialized facilities referred to as foundries or fabs.[1] In more advanced semiconductor devices, such as modern 14/10/7 nm nodes, fabrication can take up to 15 weeks with 11–13 weeks being the industry average

And as per previous link 75% of Intel's foundries or fabs are in the USA.

Anyway, going back to who makes processors... lots:

China

Costa Rica

Malaysia

US

Malaysia

And these days with all the smaller processors for handheld devices, there'll probably be more countries involved including India.
