All American products that are sold to us at a massive mark up but manufactured at a much lower cost inChina, hence huge profits for the big corporates.
You are actually overgeneneralizing.
You make it look as if the whole Apple company shifted their factory from the US to China.
That’s not even close to reality.
Nearly 100% of all the American hi-tec is designed and developed in the US itself.
What is done in China, India, etc is the testing and assembly of parts manufactred either in the US or other hi tec countries like Korea, Japan, Europe etc. Some hi tec parts are also made in China from totally independent factories. Yes don’t underestimate the Chinese they do have their own hi tec factories as well.
The Chinese even started making extremely hitec mobile phones, that almost wiped off the Samsungs from the market (don’t know how they affected the Iphones though). My wife just bought the Huwaei P20 Lite, the damn thing has an 8-core processor, 73GB storage, and it looks faster than a desktop computer in roaming the net or opening files.
Let’s take another 2 examples of hi-tec products
a)Computer Memory: did you know that there are only 3 true RAM (memory) manufacturers in the whole world and all 3 are actually manufacturing in the US? The remaining 100s all over the world are in reality assemblers of memory modules who stick their brand name on.
b)Computer processors. I think there are 4, the major ones being Intel and AMD.
75% of everything including design/reasearch/development AND manufacturing of Intel is actually made in the US.
Just like this article says:
The question is NOT should we, but CAN we get our manufacturing jobs back?
