E.g., most Cypriots believe that Cyprus is European. We apply for EU, we get accepted, and we are part of EU. Do you see any problem in this democratic process? Maybe we should ask the Turks to tell us if Cyprus is European or not, and if we can be part of EU or not? Do the Turks take permission from the Greeks (or the Greek minority in Turkey) to decide anything about what Turkey is and where Turkey should belong?
Now you are playing stupid entering the EU with no risks is one thing becoming a Greek country is totally different and full of dangers discriminaiton and hardship ask the Turks of Thrace or Crete.
All the risks are due to the Turkish aggression.
Since the wars between Greece and Turkey ended, your minority in Greece has been increasing and on average the standards of living of your minority in mainland Greece is higher than the standards of living of the average Turkish citizen. It is the Greek minority in Turkey which has greatly suffered and their numbers reduced dramatically.
Taking it a step further, union with EU means union with Greece as well. So Cyprus is currently united with Greece already. This union not only didn't harm the TCs, but on the contrary it was very beneficial for them.
So in the end of the day, the only excuse that you have against the democratic process I described above, is imaginary scenarios and nothing more.
So as I said above, Cyprus is whatever the Cypriot people want it to be, and can belong wherever the Cypriot people want it to belong, and the Turks should start respecting this.
