I am sorry but a journalist has a responsibility to pick up the phone and verify their facts before publishing.

Not just with trivial diving articles, but also with crime reporting, politics, and other subjects.

That's the bottom line.

And all I am saying is that all journalists are accountable for the articles the publish in the public domain. They need to maintain an acceptable level of professionalism like many other professions.

It is extremely defeatist to believe that journalism shouldn't have the same standards as other industries (like Aviation), which to me is like saying they are not expected to have the same degree of professionalism, integrity, and due diligence. If that is the case, then please feel free to use the CM to wipe your dirty pommy arse!

Another mental post from the village idiot...

Nobody does what you claim they should because it would be too expensive. Even the BBC cuts and pastes press releases to fill its 24/7 'news' coverage...

Even the BBC can't afford enough staff to fact check everything they publish - if it fits their narrative it is in. Even with almost limitless amounts of taxpayer cash.

Get over it.

And get over yourself, endlessly posting bluff and bluster to try and cover up the stupid and dangerous advice you gave over Nitrox.

Oh and back on topic for a few moments...

I got my new laptop from the UK via DHL.

It went through a 'Dangerous Goods Review' at their global shipping center and obviously passed... :D

Bullshit the BBC cuts and pastes news releases.

They would at the very least make an effort to ensure they are publishing accurate data.

Show me one media release they cut and paste.

Because it was consigned properly and labelled with its proper UN Dangerous Goods Number.

Oh you poor naive, innocent snowflake!

You really think the big news organisations always publish accurate data? No wonder you make such ludicrous posts on here...

Try this one from yesterday or the day before...

Number of child gamblers quadruples in just two years

BBC Webshite wrote:The number of children classed as having a gambling problem has quadrupled to more than 50,000 in just two years, a report has claimed.

The Gambling Commission study suggests that 450,000 children aged 11 to 16 bet regularly, more than those who have taken drugs, smoked or drunk alcohol.

Bets with friends, slot machines, and scratchcards, were most popular.

A campaigner on the issue, Bishop of St Albans Right Reverend Alan Smith, called it a "generational scandal".

"Today's findings by the Gambling Commission makes worrying reading and serves as a warning to parents," he said.

The only problem being that it is completely untrue...

Read it and then try and convince us that the BBC ensures they are publishing accurate data...

BTW, there are dozens, hundreds more of these that I can put my finger on in a matter of minutes...

Well, news releases have their own distinctive style. We can normally tell what is a news release, I I have just never seen the BBC publish badly written news releases.

Just doesn't happen.

Whilst all MSM like the BBC are on many occasions found to be lacking and inaccurate, I do believe the BBC would have contacted the dive shop or attempted to get in contact with the diver to obtain some "quotes" and to verify the data.

You have your nickers in a not pumpkin. The CM article was definitely bogus and inaccurate. That is all I am saying.

You can be as recalcitrant as you like, but the reality is the article was technically wrong and if the article gets basics like that wrong then the publication just can't be trusted at all.

So once again, you are completely wrong!

You haven't bothered to read the links I just posted to prove that you are completely wrong!

Every sentence you have typed above is demonstrably completely wrong!

What an utter, complete plonker you are!

Am I now?

I am wrong about the CM publishing an inaccurate article?

So the 90 year old man dived at 42m for 44 minutes, did he?

Is that right?

Incredible!
