You always see the NOTAMs in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane of laser activity but this evening, on a STAR approach into Brisbane Airport (mad Friday night rush) we were lazered.
I was pilot flying this sector. It was busy and we were given a 16 minute slow down to fit into a particular slot on Runway 01R.
We were just cleared for Finals and an ILS approach at max 3 times profile speed at a Rate of Descent of 2500 feet per minute after our Hold Pattern break out time and slow down, when we were about to retard the thrust levels to Flight Idle to slow to our Flap Speed when I got hit by a laser.
I copped it real bad. Got hit with a bright GREEN laser which illuminated the entire cockpit. I copped it in the eyes for a split second but looked down and away and closed my eyes to protect them. Lost all my night vision, couldn't see anything and had to hand over control.
My eyes are fine, but I got to see the eye specialist now before I can fly again.
