Three Speed Cameras Damaged, Destroyed

Postby Sotos » Tue Jan 17, 2006 5:18 pm

Paint marred one speed camera and motorists crashed into two others over the weekend in the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus.

A trio of speed cameras in the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus were damaged or destroyed over the weekend. In Larnaca, paint was poured over one camera obscuring its lens. Cars crashed into a pair of cameras in Nicosia, knocking them out of commission.

The Cyprus speed camera system has been plagued with difficulties. Most recently the contractor that installed the units put them on the wrong side of the road because it did not realize motorists in the country drive on the left-hand side of the road. The system will start with 32 fixed cameras and 8 mobile units expanding eventually to 450 throughout the island.

  I hope now they realised that speed cameras are not for Cyprus!

In some countries they plan to remove them nowadays, since they realised that accidents increased because of them...

Rumour is that all vehicles must have Tachographs fitted within the next 5 years. You get stopped by the police and they inspect the Tachograph disc which shows the vehicle speed etc. You pay for the Tachograph, its installation, the annual calibration check and the discs then pay any fines and pick up the bonus points on your license. Nil outlay by the government for speed camaras or hand held speed detectors and a much cheaper alternative than 'spy in the sky' satellite tracking systems

Dont put a disc in the Tacho, get caught and its an automatic loss of driving license + fine + a guest appearance in the Central Prison

Good news is that in my previous life I learnt a lot about Tachographs and the Law (sad I know) and for family friends and 'people of influence' I will legally prove that the Tacho calibration is incorrect

I dont think it would be a problem to cheat the Tachograph.... for an engineer at least! :)

tststs... do you know how many modified cars are on the roads and knowbody can catch them? Take an example remapping.... The only way to find this is using a dyno to measure its output. This is something that I can assure you knowbody in the police force has heard about. :)

Interesting that they call it "Tachograph" from the Greek word.
