Talk about loan sharks and drug barons… Western Union is worse!

Just sent a €250.00 gift to someone in the UK, which converts to just over £223.00 by today’s exchange rate on the Internet.

1. Western Union transaction fee to the UK €25.00 (for this amount)

2. The recipient only received £203.00 so Western Union pinched a further £20.00 from the money sent.

Total transaction cost to me €50.00 just to send peanuts!

Lesson learned…

In future I’ll just sticky-tape the euro bills on the inside of a birthday card!

Yes.....that was the total cost ..the £20 sterling
I think you're applying the conversion difference between euros to sterling ie €250 to £223 sterling into your equation
At the end of the day you sent €250 which worked out at £223 recipitant got £203
Cost was £20/€25

Are you saying you paid the €25 on top of the €250 ?
I thought that was deducted from yor original €250 ie down to €225 sent which accounts for my figures.
If your cost was €275 to get the £203 sterling then you have been ripped off
When I have sent money WU All I have paid is the one off fee of £20
