 I've got my last 7 questions for you Kicks but I'll have to ask them later as I'm a bit busy at workKikapu wrote:MR-from-NG wrote:Get Real! wrote:MR-from-NG wrote:GR wrote:I think he once mentioned running a Makarios paraphernalia 2nd hand shop for a few years…

I wonder if he had Yorgagis, Papadopuolos and Sampson in his inventory? Come on Kicks, the suspense is killing me....how did you survive in this ruthless jungle
OK, this is the last bit of personal information that will be written.
In the 70's, I invented "GYPOS" in San Francisco, a Greek dish using the initials of those names in the above, but it didn't do too well, so I dropped the initial "P" for Papadopuolos and added the initial "R" for Rauf Denktash and it became to be known "GYROS", and made a "killing" with it!
The rest is history!

I think Paphitis will do very well in the USA, as well as his family. It will take a little time to get adjusted, but that's normal wherever one moves to from what they are accustom to. Paphitis is a smart guy with skills in aviation, so there are always going to be needs for his professional skills in the air or on the ground. He will have no problem being accepted in any part of the country. Actually, it will be more like whether he will accept all different part of the country, which he may be forced to work from until he can build enough seniority in the company he will work for to relocate when positions came available in the area he wants to live.
The better area one lives, better the public schools will be for his kids, or else, he will need to put them into private education, and that can be expensive. In the US like in Europe, to have a comfortable life, both parents needs to work, which also adds security when one cannot work for whatever reason. Americans earn less than the Europeans in like for like professions, but the cost of living is also less in the USA. Americans work just as hard as the Europeans, but the rewards are less in the US than they are Europe, especially when it comes to working conditions and vacation time. The moment one leaves the company they are working for in the US, you will lose all your vacation time (which is far less than those in Europe to begin with) and health benefits and will have to start all over again with the new company, so in some ways, those with families tend to become "slaves" to their jobs so not to lose the company benefits.
Americans are friendly, especially in the service industry. Most Americans misuse the word "friendships" to "acquaintances", so one needs to watch out for this, especially for those who are from Australia who are very friendly people, and they mean it when they say they are your friends. In the US, it is not always the same.
As for his kids, if they can become US citizens, all the better. It is always good to have options in life as to where you want to work and live.
Go for it, Paphitis!
