Greece may be a good option for you if you did work for Turkish Airlines. I was watching an interview with the CEO from United last week. I was very impressed by him.

They are paying in USD. 27K per month for Captains and 17K for FOs.

This from some ex Olympic guys I know extremely well. Some Greeks are in senior roles too, as in Check and Training. There is literally over 100 Greek Pilots there now.

They are gabbing whoever they can get as well. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a couple of Cypriots working with them as well (ex Cyprus Airways)

Emirates have just parked 50 long haul B777, A350 and A380 on the fence because they can't crew their aircraft anymore.

Erdogan wants Turkish Lira to be used for everything instead of foreign currency in Turkey, so perhaps soon Turkish airlines may pay their pilots with the TL, which as you know has been devalued by 70% over the last 12 months and likely to get worse in the future since the TL has always lost value since it‘s inception, whether as the old TL or the new TL.

What's happening now is that there is a chronic shortage which has resulted from pilots dropping out of the system because of deteriorating pay and conditions.

Once you're out, it's hard to get back current again.

Also, the economic upturn in America, Asia, China etc has resulted in record orders for Boeing and Airbus. As a result, industry can't train enough people in time and aircraft are getting moth balled and parked up.

And parked up planes, cost big money and are a huge liability when they are not flying and earning for the operator.

A lot of airline execs are really worried and now pay and conditions are going the other way and its a pilot's market again.

I wouldn't mind converting one of those parked B-52's into a home, parked in the Arizona desert by a small private lake!

I have driven many times by a boneyard in Mojave desert, California. They are mainly commercial planes. Lots of old 747´s that would make a great home conversion. Parking it somewhere is the problem.

Sorry to divert your thread, Milti.

Can you give me some idea what it would cost approximately per month for one person in their 60‘s to live in Cyprus renting 2 bedroom flat fairly close to the coast, but not on it, food, health care, running a car, insurance and so on? Thanks.

No sure about renting a flat but estimate between 500-700 per month.
I survive nicely without using my savings, just on my state and private pensions, on about 1600 euros, no rent, but I run a thirsty car. I rarely go to restaurants, only now and again. I find that 1600 is sufficient for my needs, fishing, food and wine.

Blimey Milti. Given you’re a (double!) millionaire, you could throw in the occasional blonde - or two. Can’t take it with you/pockets in shrouds and all that sort of thing. 8)
