Google Keyboard added support for Cypriot dialect

Postby Sotos » Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:06 pm

Google keyboard can now autocomplete words like ούλλα, τζαι, μεινείσκω, ποτζί , τζιμούμαι etc if you select Κυπριακά as the keyboard language.

It's speech recognition also seems to understand Cypriot to some degree, but it usually writes it in standard Greek. E.g. it understood "Καταλάβεις Κυπριακά", it also understood "έλα ποδά" (but wrote "έλα από δω"), "Πήαινε ποτζί" (but wrote "Πήγαινε από εκεί") etc.

While we’re talking about Cypriot, the ancient Cypriot syllabary was added to the extended character set just over a year ago so now we can access ancient Cypriot characters without the need to install special font files.

The Cypriot characters have sealed their rightful place in the international character standard under ascii character numbers 67584 through 67647.

I added them to the Classic browser some versions ago under…

Main Menu > Developer Gadgets > Character Picker > Cypriot Syllabary
