2018–19 UEFA Europa League, Third qualifying round 16/08/2018
1. APOEL Nicosia vs Hapoel Beer Sheva (2.05 - 3.50 - 3.90)
APOEL without a striker is a toothless APOEL because Delatore was (most unfairly) red-carded last week and his replacement will most likely be the midfielder De-Vincenti which in my opinion is useless for the job.
Another problem is that APOEL’s once brilliant goalkeeper (Waterman) has not recovered after his serious injury last year and is under-performing.
While they have a hot atmosphere at the GSP, without strikers the hot soon becomes cold and in the second half Beer Sheva will probably pick up confidence and start doing the damage!
Meanwhile, Beer Sheva still have that black striker for the last time before he moves to Turkey, and he is quite capable of scoring.
Therefore I'm calling a “X2” for this match because I have no idea where APOEL's goals are going to come from (Efrem?) considering that DeCamargo was sold and Pote was also sold more recently, and so I wouldn't be surprised if Beer Sheva manage to turn the 2-2 around and progress to the next round.
2. AEK Larnaca vs Sturm Graz (2.35 - 3.40 - 3.25)
In the first match Sturm Graz fielded one of the worst defenses I've ever seen and the score could've easily been a lot worse for them than 0-2.
I then had a quick look at their EL history and to my surprise found that they've lost every single home match in their last 10 EL games!
What a strange record I thought so I checked their away performances and once again to my surprise found that they perform far better when playing away!
Now that's a very weird club... but can they pull a miracle at the AEK Arena where the last time a visitor won (league and EL) was years ago?
Probably not, and when you take into consideration that Florian (CY league's top scorer and far deadlier than Trickovski) will most likely return from injury to play, it looks like AEK may have a goal fiesta but I'll play it cagey with just a ..."1".
I won't go for a "Home team to win to NIL" because I expect Sturm Graz to fight very hard to show something for their unhappy supporters.
For the very brave, my correct score prediction is probably a 3-1 or a 4-1 for the home team.
3. Dinamo Brest vs Apollon Limassol (2.70 - 3.40 - 2.70)
After their comfortable 4-0 win at home, Apollon announced that they'll give 2-3 players from the bench a go so I expect a weaker Apollon and when you couple that with a stronger Dinamo at home, I think they'll meet half way so I'll go for a "X2" here.
It's easy to assume a "Away team to win" here but is Apollon that much motivated and willing to risk injuries that will affect the Play-Offs? Probably not...
On the other hand, does Dinamo Brest transform into a beast at home? Only if God intervenes from what I saw of them last week... they are definitely not GS material!
