Only Hong Kong is dearer than Sydney and that is because there is no space in Hong Kong, but Sydney has the lifestyle and is a desirable city in anyone's language. Anyone who comes to Sydney, does not want to leave. There is no city on the planet that is as nice as Sydney. I'm not being biased about it. I am just stating a pure fact!

One more thing. Sydney houses are way bigger than Parisian or London houses.

Also way way bigger than most houses in Hong Kong. Most people live in apartments there.

The average Sydney household, has a backyard, driveways, and some space for a basketball net or even a pool or tennis court even. You can never get that in London, Paris, and certainly won't get that in Hong Kong. So if you divide the Sydney median price over a square meter price, then Sydney fairs quite well, but is still considered to be the 11th most expensive city in the world by that metric or on a per square meter basis.

But on a median price basis (which buys a far larger property in Sydney than Hong Kong, Paris or London), Sydney comes out to be the second dearest city per property behind Hong Kong and 11th on a per meter basis.

You can manipulate statistics to portray all kinds of things but you need to be very specific and actually stipulate a median price (1.15 million in Sydney) so that we can compare. Which cities in the world have a greater median price than 1.15 million apart from Hong Kong which definitely exceeds that?

Sydney as far as a city is concerned is a pretty amazing place. Literally, I believe it is probably the best city I've been to. there are many great cities around the world but there are not many Sydneys. Sydney is like the girl at school that everyone want to Bonk. And this girl has expensive tastes as well, and probably way out of your range.

Now to rent in Sydney:

A median house worth 1.15 million fetches about $900 to 1,100 AUD per week. Now a house that is 1.15 million is at least 40 minutes out of Sydney. You will not find a house worth 1.15 million within 40 minutes of Sydney.

In other words, $52,000 per year (assuming 1,000 per week)

That's about 36,000 Euros per year.

Your Melbourne millionaires are used to paying through the nose for JUNK, and I have seen the junk they build in Australia Paphitis… there’s just no comparison with what you can get/build here.

Look, houses in Cyprus don't have character like houses in Sydney do. Your house will be your typical concrete box.

But if you were to relocate your 5 bedroom house to within 25 minutes of Sydney, it would be worth about 2 million AUD, and within 15 minutes of Sydney it would be worth 3.5 million or more.

But knowing a bit about Cypriot houses, your house would not be as aesthetically appealing to the old colonial style houses in inner Sydney which are friggin gorgeous.

Australian Cities are famous for their architecture.

The houses you guys build are junk. No character. probably well built but they are featureless.

Our houses are a lot better. Sorry but I don't know what the hell you're are on about. Cypriot houses are appalling cement boxes that have no architectural prowess.

Your house would be out of place.

I will show you photos of my place. it is a 122 year old British Colonial home with wooden floor boards and ornate high ceilings and woodwork which you can't get in this day and age. Fully renovated, and it is a 5 bedroom and it also has 3 bathrooms and an en-suite, and a cinema and indoor pool. It has a wine cellar and a billiards room and open plan living. It also has a Butlers Kitchen and a normal kitchen with dual walk in pantries which is the size of a bedroom. 5 doors down was the old Governors house where Queen Elizabeth would stay in the 50s and 60s.

Australians have no sense of quality… they can build big houses like everyone else around the world, but they’re seriously lacking in quality.

For example, I’ve never seen granite/marble floors or bench-tops, never saw quality taps, never saw quality door/window systems, never seen rosewood kitchen systems, never seen quality doors and handles, and so forth.

Everything is crappy…

So you *can* get the SIZE but it's all junk quality inside.

Are you kidding me.

Aussies are not so laid back these days.

They are very fussy about their food. Aussies are the biggest foodies, and wine connoisseurs these days and are pedantic about their clothes, shoes, labels, cars and houses.

Aussies have become the most spoilt people because they have had it too good for too long. That is why we have Ferrari and Lamborghini dealerships in Sydney as well. Sales are apparantly through the roof.

I can take you to furniture shops in Sydney which will make you fall over. Also, take you to see the real estate that would make your eyes water.

Sydney is not in your league mate. 8)

Aussies pretend to be all macho, but let me tell you, Aussies also know more about Halloumi than Cypriots do.

Sydney is one of the yuppiest cities ever. And it is trendy! Fucking trendy! Where the cars are fast and the girls are hot. And the bars are out of this world too.

BTW, I have granite bench tops. They are pretty damn standard in Australia. it's not just the granite, but its the workmanship that is around which is astounding. Architects in Australia actually design aestheically appealing houses. I doubt that your house would even be granted planning approval in Sydney because it has to meet Australian standards in street scape and appearance and Cypriot houses are not famous for that at all. So it doesn't mtter if you have the granite bench top. Outside,it is just a square cement box compared to Australian Colonial, federation or Queenslander Homes which are majestic.

In Australia, they sell you Aussie-made laminate kitchens at the same price as you get Italian rosewood in Europe!

That’s what I’m on about Paphitis… you pay shitloads of money but getting JUNK!

Have a good look at those shitty skinny windows they install in houses in Australia, take a picture of them and when you’re next in Cyprus come over for a tour so you can experience temperature isolating quality alluminium door/window systems.

My window frames are over 30cm wide (depth)… that’s how much width is needed to accommodate the complex multi-layer systems you wouldn’t be able to get or afford in Australia.

The list just goes on and on… :)

Err no. They sell those kitchens because there are people on a budget.

However, my kitchen is a Butler's kitchen. It cost me $80,000 to install it. It has all granite bench tops. My pantry would be bigger than your bedroom and under that is a wine cellar too. And my ceilings are 14 foot high. That's 14 foot mate.

Most people are putting granite bench-tops, but if you can't afford it you can put in wooden tops as well which also look nice, just won't last as long and is only a fraction of the price.

You can get whatever you like in Australia if you are willing to pay.

My bar alone was handcrafted with granite tops and set me back 30,000 AUD.

And today, Australians are spending ridiculous amounts of money on their housing.

The other thing about Australian property is that it doesn't pay to skimp. prices have gone through the roof. When Aussies renovate, they go the full nine yards because they know the returns will be there. the difference between you and an Aussie is that an Aussie does not buy a house to die in and settle in. They move around and Aussies buy and sell an average of 2 to 4 times. So they invest in their renovations because they know there is profit to be made, which is also tax free.
