His Dad was a great man. His right hand man was a young Greek Accountant. One day, he went into Kerry packer's office and told packer he wanted to start up a Home Loan Finance Company and Packer yelled at him to get out there and do it boy!

The Greek Accountant said he had no money. packer asked him, how much do you need and got the Cheque Book out. He wrote his accountant a Cheque for $40 million right there and then. The Greek Accountant went on to be the Apprentice Boss on TV and a Billionaire in his own right now. Packer was famous for the International Series and had Lords in a spin for a while in the UK. Typical Australian larrikin.

When Kerry was diagnosed by a Kidney Disease, his helicopter Pilot donated him his kidney. He was that loved. Netanyahu and Packer are very close apparently. They are best friends.

Fascinating story, thanks.
I just learned it's a consortium of companies actually.

I don't think packer is involved.

Packer owns Star City in Sydney, plus Gold Coast, Brisbane and Perth. The one in Gold Coast is probably the smallest. he also has one in Macau and a huge one in Las Vegas.

There is no way Packer would go into a consortia with a Chinese company. he is too wealthy for that and what money will he make from Cyprus when he has Star City and Las Vegas.

It just doesn't make sense. Plus, they said the company involved with Cyprus is a competitor to Crown. Well maybe, in Macau yes, but not in Australia and Las Vegas. The Chinese Consortia is big noting itself by comparing themselves to Crown.

He also owns a number of Private Jets and pick up the high rollers and delivers them to Sydney or Las Vegas where a helicopter awaits them to take them to the Casino from the rooftop where they gamble in private high roller rooms.

But Cyprus should try to get this guy to do the Cyprus Casino. probably Cyprus would have to approach him because Cyprus wouldn't be a market he would be interested in. He has far bigger fish to fry than Cyprus.

The company involved in Cyprus isn't of the same calibre as Crown which is probably one of the biggest in the world.

I have been ti his Casinos and they are just insanely opulent. The hotels are 7 Star. Star City in Sydney is probably the biggest Casino in the World. Or Melbourne? I can't recall now.

There are rooms there that cost over $10,000 per night.

Put it this way, if Cyprus can get Packer on the project, then his hotel will be the best resort on the entire island. it will be huge and on a scale you guys have never seen before. People will come to Cyprus just to visit this Casino.

But if someone important reads this per chance, Cyprus should be talking to Packer.

Your casino would be linked to one of the biggest chains on the planet. This guy won't muck around at all.

he would spend Billions in Cyprus, not Millions.

https://www.star.com.au/sydney/

https://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/casino

If anyone has been to Crown or Star they will know that the complex is so large it takes hours just to walk through the damn thing. Shows and Concerts everywhere. They are entertainment hubs as well as casinos.

I would give the Chinese consortia the flick and get Packer in on it. Don't like the chances of that though. But Cyprus could ask and see what happens. If he accepts, then Cyprus would have attracted a Las Vegas casino owner and that is the big time. If anyone has a chance to visit crown or Star, then you will understand what I am talking about.

Macau is pretty good, but Las Vegas is better. Star and Crown are better too. The product Packer would deliver in Cyprus would be of Las Vegas calibre because that is what packer does. If it is in Limassol, you will see the dam thing 50 miles out to sea. Cyprus would need another power station too. His Hotels use enough power for a small city.

The Island has a population of less than a million people ...... what on earth makes you think anyone would spend billions here? It would be like building a multimillion Euro Mall, with hundreds of shop units in a small rural village ! Has it ever occurred to you how he makes so much money? From losers! The more opulent the facilities the more losers are needed to sustain it.

It doesn't. it just isn't good enough. All Cyprus can get is the third tier Russian and Chinese Oligarchs because the real big fat cats are going to America, China, Australia, Germany, Japan etc.

Only the criminal elements are in Cyprus hiding from the authorities, because the real rich ones who actually mean business are in the UK buying Chelsea Football Club or on Wall Street which is the Centre of the Financial Universe!

Paphiti,

The bank you speak of is owned by Wilbur Ross, TD and a few other large US investors.

Hellenic Bank and the COOP are currently being merged with US money from Atlas, JC Flowers and Pimco.

One of our largest resorts Aphrodite Hills is owned by York Capital another 20bn+ US fund.

Hardly criminal elements...more like the cream of Wall Street.

Well then, I think its high time the Americans modernised these poor excuses for "Banks" and whip them into shape meaning:

100 points of identification on account opening, then leave us all alone to run our accounts as we like as long as the balance is positive.

But freezing my account is something that is an unforgivable act.

It's a bit of a worry when your Bank results in losing some cash.

Why, because Cyprus has 6 million tourist visits per annum, so having a 7-star Hotel migfht be of interest.

Also, Packer knows all the high rollers from China and the USA and also from Australia. he flies them in for a flutter on his business jets and these guys are big spenders.

It isn't unreasonable to me for packer seeing an opportunity in Cyprus and he will tap into the Chinese and American markets of extremely wealthy individuals who just might want to go to Cyprus. Packer wouldn't be relying on the local population of Cyprus but the tourism sector and more importantly the high wealth high roller markets.

Packer isn't really the kind of guy after the small fish. I don't know much about the Son, but the father was a very charismatic larrikin that would have fitted in any Australian local pub having a drink with Blue Collar people.

The other interesting fact about Packer is that he lives in Israel by choice. He an Netanyahu are very chummy and neighbours. He would know Cyprus well, and probably has visited.

He isn't Jewish or a Zionist or even very religious. For some reason, he likes Israel. He might be building a Hotel there. Not sure.

BTW, Packer made his money from news and media. He along with Murdoch, was the most powerful news mogul on the planet. you would refer to him as the Mass Media - Channel 9, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Financial Review, Wide World of Sports and Sports illustrated, World Series Cricket and World Cup etc.

CY tourism is always between 2.2 and 2.6 million p/year.

Paphitis, we’re still waiting for you to get *something* right before the end of 2050… :?

Are you sure you are correct?

Official number is 3,652,073 in 2017. I said 6 and you said 2.2 to 2.6.

You were not exactly correct. I didn't bother looking because I just couldn't be stuffed. I just knew it was a fair amount.

I just wish you’d stop using figures in your posts if you’re not going to bother getting factual ones.
